Foodie disappointments
And no judging
What have you tried that others rave about and you thought wasn’t great?
After seeing many people rave about baked Camembert we bought and baked one New Year’s Eve. Admittedly I didn’t add anything to it at first, but it was the most bland, disappointing thing ever. We added a load of salt and pepper which improved it slightly but 2/3 went in the bin and I wouldn’t buy it again.

Olives. They're so fucking foul I just can't.

I’ve never tried them either but I have to admit there is nothing in their name that makes me think wow must try them! And I say that as a lover of a lot of things lemony.
Macaroni cheese. I’m sorry. I’ve tried. It’s bland and sickly. I’ve tried sprucing it up with ham/bacon/chorizo/peas but it’s still just meh.
I can’t even bring myself to try nigellas crab version as it makes me weep for the loss of lovely crab meat.

Oh and risotto. It’s a bowl of rice.

Risotto for me is one of those dishes where there always seems to be the same amount of food no matter how much I feel I've eaten. I don't think I've ever finished a plate or bowl of risotto in my life.

Yes! There was a roast chicken skin one doing the rounds a while back which I tried and it was just dull stodge to me And I'm not against stodge in general.

I don't think chicken goes in a risotto. I mean, I know you can put anything in but like pasta* they do not go in my opinion.

Thankyou! Chicken does not belong in pasta or on pizza. This is a constant argument in our house.
Risotto I want to like as I love rice, but I’d rather have a bowl of plain rice to be honest. Every mouthful is the same so after your third you think “right I’m done”
In fairness I don’t have the same problem with a bowl of mashed potato.

Exactly - rissotto is a hassle but somehow more dull than plain buttery mash!

I love risotto but I'm not arsed about mash or roasties or bacon.

I like risotto but I don't love it. It never seems enough.

I agree with risotto. I always like the idea of it as I love rice, but by a few mouthfuls in I’m always totally sick of it, no matter how nice it is.
I like a small amount of sushi.

I also agree that chicken doesn’t go with pizza or pasta. I’m not a massive steak fan either, no matter how good it is. I hate big slabs of meat.

I’m generally very anti chicken with pizza (in fact no meat on pizza ) and pasta but Nigel Slater’s roast chicken risotto is lovely.
