Re: Foodie disappointments
I do not hold with chicken on a pizza/pasta/risotto in most circumstances but would be open to trialling a recommended Nigel or Nigella version. However, I break with the Nonnas on risotto, which I prefer to have as a side with something else, which is so deeply unacceptable to the Italians that I think I would be burnt. I also enjoy a spelt or pearl barley risotto due to being less claggy, which would get me a shooting squad probably.

The Italians have it as a course on it's own don't they, a "primi" prior to the main meat or fish dish?

Also, I love sushi but there is a lot of bad sushi out there and good sushi is often stupidly expensive, so I have half a foot in the anti-sushi camp, albeit reluctantly, because I really love it when it's good.

Yes, they make you eat a whole bowl of it, and do NOT allow you to make free with the concept. But on the other hand it's generally a small bowl I think, as you say, not a main course bowl.Derek Nimmo wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 1:22 pm The Italians have it as a course on it's own don't they, a "primi" prior to the main meat or fish dish?

Re: Foodie disappointments
Supermarket/Pret sushi makes me cry, as they refrigerate it it at the same temperature as all their other chilled goods, which is too cold for sushi. Chilled less aggressively, it is one of my favourite foods.
I also like risotto - I am a big fan of rice based dishes of all varieties, I think. I cannot get on wth polenta - like eating yellow porridge with savoury things

I really want to like hot chocolate but I just don’t . I have tried every different kind, every single one that people have recommended and every method of making it.
I love hot drinks, and I love chocolate. What’s wrong with me?

I’m not a massive fan either Arriety, yet I like chocolate flavoured milk. I think it’s too sickly hot.
And I detest BBQ sauce, which is why things like pulled pork etc never really appeal as they always tend to be with BBQ sauce, and if you take away the sauce then you’ve basically got very very over cooked pork.
I don’t really like ramen type dishes, they seem to be really fashionable at the moment but I’m never sure if I’m eating noodles, or soup.

I love hot chocolate, I've become a bit obsessed with it this lockdown in fact. I just recently stopped myself ordering some that was £20.
I'm not fussed on barbecue either, although I've always fancied going to to the Southern US and trying some Man V Food style.
I don't really care for rice in any form. I eat it as a way to get more sauce in my face, but it doesn't thrill me.

I like risotto and love olives. I'm not a home barbecue fan. I have been reminded by Liv and olive that I always find polenta disappointing.

Re: Foodie disappointments
Love olives, neutral about risotto, happy with meat on my pizza. As a fish hater, I tolerate sushi only when drowned in wasabi, ginger and soy sauce, which makes for a bit of a waste of money.
However. BEETROOT. It really needs to fuck off back to its natural home of in a jar with vinegar. It's had its moment and should know when to leave the party.

Pickled beetroot is nasty, roast beetroot is wonderful.
