J has a friend/acquaintance who has a little boy the same age as A. A met him for the first time recently and it transpires the little boy's name is 'Mayan'.
Me: "Oh, like the civilisation?"

Does he have siblings named Inca and Aztec?
It’s like a normal midlife crisis only with more chandeliers and foreign languages.

There’s a dad at S’s footie team who is called “Shane”. I took over as Team Manager this season and when I got the team contact list, turns out it’s “C.heyne” :woteva:

My maiden name was a Rude Word and I wondered if my brother might change to his wife's name when he got married, but he reckoned after nearly 40 years of funny glances etc he was basically immune and didn't care any more. His wife, bless her heart, decided to go double barrelled on social media but keep her own (normal) name for work.

I took my ex's nice normal surname, and kept it when we split up.

Election time in Germany sees loads of placards in the streets attached to trees, bollards and the like. Back when I lived in the south, my best friend was over during such a time and we saw one for a candidate who was using the nickname or diminutive of her full first name, Birgit. As we were (are) immature we laughed ourselves silly at the name Biggi Bender.

For the past couple of seasons I have been confused by the fact that A’s team seem to be the only team in the league who don’t have an Ashton in their ranks. It doesn’t strike me as a particularly common name generally but there’s always one, whoever we’re playing. Today it was pointed out to me that they’re probably all named after Ashton Gate, the Bristol City ground

There’s an In.die-Bl.eu in S’s school class (the second part is pronounced just “blue”, rather than the french pronunciation, though). He also has a Bear in his class.

One of our best friends is called Cheney, which is basically Shane-y. He is Australian, and his Australian wife has no hesitation in telling him he’s stuck with a bogan name.

An Indian colleague I.shita S.anyal . I always misread her (I think it’s a female) surname as sandal and think it sounds very painful.
