Del! I'm pleased for you.
Toast, that sounds so stressful. Urgh. Perhaps renting would reduce the stress?
Little My, I'm stupidly surprised by that. You'd think people would be embarrassed about leaving somewhere in such a state.

Del, that's fabulous! I do love a 1930s semi. The ones I've lived in all had such huge windows.
The clause is cheeky, Little My, but absolutely understandable. I'm no longer shocked at the state people leave places in. We've moved 5 times in the last 10 years and it's been rancid every time. Our current place minged. It's like they didn't know you could wipe a surface or move furniture to hoover - you could literally see the outline of objects on the carpet by the inches of muck.

Both the places I've bought have been vile too - particularly this one.

That’s really disappointing, Little My.
I’ve accepted an offer on my flat. Two offers came in shortly after I posted so I must remember that next time I need something to happen!
The agent is talking about six weeks to exchange which is sooner than I expected but I guess we’ll see.

Great news on the offer. 6 weeks to exchange would be AMAZING!

My friend managed it in under 6 weeks, I am sure her solicitor is an actual witch.

Thank you! I'd prefer it not to be six weeks because although my buyer's buyers (is that right?) have finally offered on somewhere, I think it's pretty unlikely they'll be out in that timeframe. Everything is moving much slower in Kent than it is in London too from what I can make out.

Congrats on selling, Toast! I hope it all goes smoothly.
N is talking seriously about finding a place with a granny annexe or suitable convertible outbuildings, so that I could move in with her but we would still have be able to live separate lives for most of the time. I don’t think it’s a ‘this year’ project, more a five to ten year goal.

It’s like a normal midlife crisis only with more chandeliers and foreign languages.

I’d like it as long as we were able to be separate (a kitchen each, a lockable door between us) when we wanted to be. We’d have to thrash out ground rules but I think it would work as long as we had separate spaces.

My aunt converted her detached garage to make my grandma a completely separate little bungalow. It works really well.

Day before closing, and our buyers have freaked out about water issues in the basement and demand we do something about it ("it" being something we feel isn't a problem).

Oh no! Are they just trying to get money off, do you think? What on earth are you supposed to ‘do’ with less than a day’s notice?

Re: House Buying Is More Stressful Than Divorce, Death or Bankruptcy
I have a granny flat and my next build will also have a granny flat. We’ve had a resident parent with us for years. Happy to tell you all about the good the bad and the ugly if you want an insight. Overall it works well. Ground rules and boundaries need to be set early and stuck to!rosy wrote: ↑Thu Sep 16, 2021 3:13 pm N is talking seriously about finding a place with a granny annexe or suitable convertible outbuildings, so that I could move in with her but we would still have be able to live separate lives for most of the time.
