Face is falling off - help!

Post by Kleio »

I didn't want to post on Pip's thread as it's a similar question but I didn't want to overtake it.

On Sunday I had a CT scan where they injected dye into my blood stream. I've had an allergic reaction to it. Only on my face.

Within 5 hours it felt like my face was on fire, Monday morning I was bright red all over my cheeks and it looked like I'd burned it in the sun.

Now, I've got weeping sores on my chin and the skin around those, on my nose and between my eyebrows are peeling and really painful to touch.

I'm only using water to wash and at the moment I'm shoving E45 on regularly but it's not doing much. It feels tight and raw so I know I need something a bit more moisturising. Unfortunately I'm on my knees until next week and even then, given the time of year, I can't afford anything pricey. We've got a tiny boots and I can go to a small Superdrug tomorrow but that's it as far as shops go around these parts.

Any recommendations? Would a facial oil help with the e45 over the top as a barrier?

I assume you're taking antihistamines? It all sounds horrible, you poor thing.

I'd probably look for something like a vitamin E oil or BioOil as they're really good for wound healing.

Are you usually ok with E45? I ask because I don’t get on with it and found it made things worse! (I use superdrug aqueous cream as a barrier).

I hope you get some relief quickly!

Olive oil? Honey on the sores?

Try the stuff I tried!

I went with Cicaplast, ALL the antihistamines & squalane oil. I think I was moisturising hourly at one stage.

Basically plain but actually nourishing stuff rather than barrier creams.

I think I would ask for something on prescription if there are weeping sores etc

What Marth said, or at the very least please get yourself to a pharmacy.

That sounds awful, I really hope it clears up soon.

I used very basic aqueous cream from Boots when my face fell off a few years back. It was cheap as chips and no frills but certainly helped. The pharmacist recommended it when he saw the sorry state of my poor face, which was red, swollen and flaking like face-dandruff 😢

I went to a pharmacy today to see if they’d recommend a GP and all that was suggested was stronger antihistamines and to keep on with the E45.

I’ll grab some of that cream tomorrow Pip! Thank you.

Sorry Arriety I’ve just seen your response too. That’s how mine is.

Still, it’s worth it to know I’m not going to die

I would say that within 2-3 days I was the only person who could tell there was anything wrong. Never found out what caused it, I just woke up one morning with skin that literally just fell off in a dandruff avalanche at the slightest touch :(

I think steering clear of water is probably a good idea. Do you have any cleansing oil you can use instead?

How are you today Kleio?

I would recommend Dermol which you can get from a pharmacy. I am happy to send you a bottle if you need some urgently. However I would recommend asking for a GP appointment in the meantime.

Ouch. You can wash with aqueous cream & it’s really gentle. A doctor recommended it years ago when I had a bout of thrush (not on my face :look: )

I have some Dr Jart cicapair samples if you would like me to post them to you, Kleio - the gel cream and the cream crème.
