Good luck Nine! Hope it's going OK!
Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either, just fuck off and leave me alone.

A new role is the best! You won't get compared to a predecessor and you can totally carve it out and make it whatever you want.

A few months ago my name was put forward to work with a team on a project and I've really enjoyed it.
An opportunity has now come up to for a years secondment in this team and I've decided to put my name forward for it.

Thanks!
I've never had the nerve to volunteer for something like this but I am the stage where I'm going with the nothing ventured nothing gained approach. I've already had a chat with the team lead and they said they've been impressed with the work I've done so far and would love to have me. The biggest hurdle will be releasing me from my current projects.

Re: Time For A Change
Well I had a chat with my line manager and due to current projects and those in the pipeline, that I can't be released and go on secondment. I'm not too disappointed because I suspected this might happen.
I am pleased that I had the nerve to put my name forward and know that the other team lead valued my work to date.

Quick update, thanks to a little bit of politics/nudging the opportunity of secondment is still on the cards. I gave my business case and showed even a 50% secondment is possible.

Re: Time For A Change
Ugh, I am not enjoying the FTC, unfortunately. The team is lovely but there is a big "team culture" and so many "inspirational" emails, reports and presentations flying about that I can't keep up. Also, the work is tedious and I'm confident about 50% of it but very out of my depth with the other 50%. I have four weeks' notice which I haven't handed in yet, but I've starting to see if I can line up another chunky booking to escape to.

I will definitely chat to them first. This is a bit cryptic, but because of my career background they're giving me some of the toughest work and seem to think I can create results out of nothing.

Re: Time For A Change
So, a couple of weeks ago I discussed handing in my notice with HR (it is not much fun) and was persuaded to stay on. However, they lost two big clients this week so gave me my notice yesterday. It's definitely for the best as they didn't have enough of the work they hired me for, and the work I was being given wasn't what I wanted to do.
My last working day is 24th Feb and I already have work lined up elsewhere for March/onwards. Plus they have to pay me for all my unused holiday!
