Testing times - Covid in 2022

There are cases at nursery but not the group that Biggie is in, and the two cases in Tupac’s class are (from process of deduction of asking a 4YO who wasn’t in school) not on his direct group (they are in sets of five most of the time and they aren’t children I see on the pictures).

On that basis I think I’ll test Tupac before school tomorrow to be on the safe side (Biggie is with me all day anyway and we aren’t going anywhere) and then see where we are at. Neither of them have coughed since yesterday really.

No chance of swabbing tonsils, jeez it’s a two man job to pin down a two year old and get anywhere near his nose :lol: every time I’ve done a PCR in the back of the car I’ve wished for an extra hand as two is not enough :lol:

My niece has covid and NHS guidelines state that as she doesn’t have a high temperature, continuous cough or loss of taste/smell she can go to school!

She said she didn’t want to be a leper and one of her good friends can’t be vaccinated so they’ve lied and said she has a high temperature.

This brave, new world of Covid relies an awful lot on a) people knowing how vulnerable their contacts are and b) people caring enough to act on that knowledge.

These are seriously strange times! I was talking to a colleague yesterday who went skiing and got winded when he fell hard flat on his back. He kept coughing after that but figured it was because of the fall. After a couple of more days skiing, he went home and got a positive LFT! He'd been in and out of ski lifts, bars and restaurants and says he probably infected loads of people, which he feels awful about.

He should have tested all the same.

That's what I was thinking...on the other hand, if you go skiing now, you know there are risks so I'm assuming there were no vulnerable people in the ski lifts.

You don't only have to worry about people who are clinically classed as vulnerable though. Long Covid can affect people from all walks of life, and not only vulnerable people die from it.

In Italy they are all still wearing ffp2 masks indoors and on all bubble lifts. They are substantially more cautious than the UK.

And yes, one of the first places in Europe was from a ski resort, lots of people mixing then flying home.

True. The weird thing is, this was his 2nd skiing holiday this year. The first time there were 6 of them in the car and 5 had Covid, only my colleague didn't get it. And now he was the only one from their (different) group to get it.

The half term skiing season in Feb 2020 definitely seeded covid in the Uk.

Mum did eventually manage to test herself and it was covid. She's just left with fatigue now. Keeps falling asleep in the afternoon which admittedly isn't unusual for a 77 year old. I'm just glad she had her extra booster in Feb.

Thank you. She already sounds way better than a week ago. She tested again yesterday and is now showing negative so she's on the way up. I'm more worried about her general fitness and mobility because she was already fairly limited in her excursions. It's the balance between not becoming houseboumd and not overdoing it.
