Annual leave and continuous service.
I'm trying to work out when I get additional days. Can anyone help? I've emailed HR but might be waiting forever.
For simplicity I started on the 1st August 2018. The leave year runs from the 1st September to end of August
Will I be able to take additional years in this coming new annual leave year (Sept 1st 22 to Aug 23) or the one after?
Policy says:
You are entitled to 26 days annual leave (pro-rated for part time staff).
Once you have accrued 5 years continuous service you are entitled to up to 4 additional days annual leave – a total of 30 days per year (pro-rated for part time staff).
You become entitled to all the additional days in the leave year that you reach 5 years service, i.e. there is no pro-rating based on when during the leave year your continuous service date falls.

I think based on that, even though you reach 5 years in month 11, that you would get the extra days at the start of the point in the year when AL entitlement is refreshed. At least that’s how it reads to me.

I read that in the same way as Pov, so you would have access to those days from 1st September this year.

You'll have accrued five years' continuous service on 1/8/23, so from September '23 you'll get extra leave.

Yes. That's how I read it. But that would be a different leave year?

Yes; your 5 years' service won't have finished until midnight on 31st July 2023, so you won't get the additional leave until the next leave year starting after that, surely?

I reach (finish) 5 years in August 23, which is contained within the 22/23 leave year though.

This sounds self explanatory to me. The word “all” is important there.
I would take them at their word

Re: Annual leave and continuous service.
HR have confirmed that I will get the extra 4 leave days added from this Sept 2022
This is excellent as I've also banked ten days and want to speak to my manager this week about taking a month off next year to go to the US and Cuba.

Exciting! An extra four days is not to be sniffed at, nor is an entire month off work and on holiday.
