No Spend Days

Post by Disco »

Remember them?

I'm trying to do a ten day streak starting tomorrow. I doubt I'll manage it but let's see. All of my bill payments will go out on the 1st but I won't class that as a break of my streak as those are essentials (house, c/tax, utilities, insurance etc). I have a freezer to empty and only me to feed so I'm really hoping I can do it, even if my meals end up being 'interesting' or purely to ensure I survive ( :mog: ).

I’m 6 days into a 10 day one. Not included in that are food, petrol or bills but a birthday, school uniform and general summer holiday spending meant I ran dry.

Oh Kleio, that's tough. I'm sorry. School uniform time is brutal anyway without all the recent inflation and predicted rises.

Thanks, Ella!

I’m sure there’s places you can download kindle books for free. I sometimes do a search on Amazon for free ones. Some can be pretty rubbish but there’s been some good.

Thank you. Thing is I’ve got about ten books lined up, a mixture of bought and prime reading, so it was more I caught myself on auto-pilot about to make a casual purchase.

I still do these! They tend not to be all in a row though so that’s impressive.

It so is.

I still do them too, nine, but like you not usually in a row either. We'll see how impressive this is, I haven't even done day one of this streak yet.

I broke my no spend today as I’ve brought 3 teenage boys to a Pokemon trading night in a cafe.

£1.90 on a coffee.

I find it very easy to not spend money on me as I rarely do but it’s really difficult not to spend on the children.

You had a very good run though, Kleio. The summer holidays with the entertaining and many mouths to feed is tough to get through!

I'm on day 3. I've stopped myself from many Amazon book purchases and popping to the shops for sweet things over the weekend.

Good luck Dic. This is a good idea. I am going to try it. Are you with your library? I rarely buy books now, unless I know I'll want to re-read them.

Thanks Lily, I do belong to the library. I mainly buy Kindle books when they're on offer so I've stopped myself from several 99p purchases. It's still a saving even though I'm not spending a tenner on a new book. I don't want physical books as I haven't got the space, and I'm no longer keen on holding a heavy book where I can't press on a word if I don't know what it means.

It’s day 6 but I need crème fraiche for tomorrow’s dinner. I think I’ll go to the crap tesco metro as it’s never got anything useful so I might get away with only buying crème fraiche.

This is SUCH a Kindle benefit, innit?

I'm doing low spend, rather than no spend. I took thirty quid out on Wednesday and I'll see how long it lasts me. Paying by cash is really eye-opening.

When I know I’m at the stage of my cycle when I want to spend spend spend I just take enough money with me to the supermarket

In this instance I’d go with a couple of quid in my pocket and nothing more.

I have found myself pressing a word on an actual book a couple of times.

That’s a good idea Kleio. I will take only a couple of quid. I bet I’ll get there and the crème fraiche price has rocketed.
