The Queen
Can we please have a separate thread for those of us who are upset/sad about this? Hope that is OK

Re: The Queen
I think she’s worked tirelessly for decades, is a good ambassador for the country and has brought in millions in tourism.
It will be the end of the monarchy as we know it I think and I will be sad to see her go.

I thought of you as soon as I heard the news, Elly.
I like the Queen. This is going to be massive.

It's going to be seismic, she is basically the greatest Britton that has ever lived. She is also the only institution (her, not the Monarchy) that doesn't seem to have been utterly corrupted in recent times.
I'm gutted.

The sudden pelting rain is making me think that the end is nigh if it hasn't happened: pathetic fallacy I think they call it?
It reminds me of when my granny died; I kept praying for her to stay alive, then I thought, but that isn't what she wants. She's worn out, and wants to be at peace and with her husband. So I prayed for the right thing for her to happen. That was comforting.
I hope William gets there in time.

Is Harry still in Germany? I wonder if he'll go too?

Yahoo UK popped up on my timeline with a live video link to the gates of Balmoral. It’s fucking sickening.

I feel really sad. Talk about an end of an era.
I'm amazed that they published the statement, to be honest. I suppose it's to prepare the nation psychologically, a bit.

Re: The Queen
When I first read the statement that said she was comfortable I thought it was a positive, but given the news since about how her family are urgently travelling to Balmoral it now seems like a reference that she’s being kept comfortable with morphine until her family can get there.
The true end of an era, anyway. We did talk at our platinum jubilee street party that we’d keep the bunting as in due course there’d be a coronation party, but it looks like being a bit sooner than expected. I hope she has a peaceful last few hours/days.

Re: The Queen
Agreed. This is really important. When Prince Philip was basically dying, and had been resuscitated a couple of times (poor sod), they put out all the "he's doing well" stuff so when he actually died nobody was really expecting it and it was a jolt. Private Eye said you *have* to start preparing people as it's such a massive shock otherwise. I think she has probably gone if we are going along with the pathetic fallacy, unless we're the only area which has just had the most enormous rain storm.

It's even the top headline over here today. So sad.
