Turtle vibes for Foggy, please
My poor darling little Foglet has to have an operation this afternoon. Until last week, he was eating normally, but losing weight and I had expressed a concern to the vet, when she saw him for his annual boosters. She had a bit of a prod and a poke but thought he seemed fairly healthy - and still heavy, even if losing weight. He's 16, this year, so she suggested bringing him in for routine bloods, just to be sure there were no kidney or thyroid issues. I was meant to take him in last Thursday, but it snowed, so we moved the appointment to today.
In the meantime, he stopped eating and, while his coat and eyes still look healthy, he's turned into a bag of bones, almost overnight. When she examined Foggy this morning - before sedating him for the bloods - the vet couldn't find anything suspicious. But once she had sedated him she had another feel of his abdomen and found a lump ...
She took him up to their other branch to do an MRI scan and they could see that there was a 'mass' of some sort in his intestine. They really had no option but to operate to investigate.
We were meant to be flying out for a week's golf in Portugal on Sunday. We had arranged for a friend to pop in and feed the two boys twice a day, while we were away. But, now, whatever the results of the operation, we can't be leaving a friend caring for a cat with a new operation scar. So, we've cancelled. :(

Poor little dude.
Everything crossed for him. I am so sorry that you've had to cancel your trip, too.

Re: Turtle vibes for Foggy, please
Thanks all. Foggy had his op and is recovering at the vet's overnight. They found a strange growth. The vet had never seen anything quite like it. He said, normally, when he finds tumours in older cats, they tend to be 'angry-looking', and you know you're in for a whole world of trouble. But, in Foggy's case, he said it didn't look aggressive and, overall, Foggy seems in pretty good shape for a cat of his age. The op went well, so there's reason to be hopeful. :fc:

Oh, poor old chap. I hope he is ok.

That does sound unusual. It’s not normally good news for a cat that age to have a tumour. Hope he has a comfortable recovery x
