I loved the books although it's ages since I read them so I've forgotten a lot. I think I see an Apple TV trial in my future.

I just finished The Guest by Emma Cline. It's about a grifter in her 20s, and is weirdly captivating. The writing style is very engaging and manages to give you good character development with few actual details of who the characters are, and the ending is clever but I don't wish to spoiler it.

Jack Monroe? I just picked this up from the library.

I've just finished a feminist re-telling of Greek myths by Charlotte Higgins. It was absolutely fantastic and I am going to buy it for everyone.

I’ve read a couple of books this week, Uncle Dynamite by PGW, which was perfect for when I was feeling glum earlier on in the week, and Reputation by Sarah Vaughn which was just as good as Anatomy of a Scandal.

I've just started Cleopatra and Frankenstein, about a mismatched couple on New York, and I think I'm going to adore it.

I read Real Tigers on holiday, they're a bit formulaic but easy to read. I also read The Last Dance by Mark Billingham which I was looking forward to,as I usually really like his stuff. This book featured a new detective and I thought he was a real twat. I know readers tend not to like change (he's written about the same detective for years) but this was a bit of a let down.

I started Young Mungo on my journey home and I'm really enjoying it.

I've just started Cleopatra and Frankenstein, about a mismatched couple on New York, and I think I'm going to adore it.

I loved it. Laughed out loud (Eleanor is my favourite character) and got nostalgic for New York and thought it was filled with wisdom and believable characters. SO good.

I've just finished the latest Curtis Sitenfeld - Romantic Comedy. It's not perfect (my friend who is a massive CS fan hated it!) but I really quite enjoyed it in an easy read sort of way.

I'm struggling with her American Wife because I keep seeing George W Bush in my mind's eye and it's hugely off-putting.

The new Ambrose Parry was very good, Voices of the Dead. I’d thought that maybe it was a trilogy, but this is book 4 and there’s a 5th to come. My sister might have booked the authors for a reading, so I’m very excited for that.

I bought the rest of the Women’s Prize shortlist (and the third od Deborah Levy’s living autobiography) over the weekend and I think I’m going to read Trespasses next.

I'm just about to start Trespasses as well, Pip! I've read Black Butterflies and Fire Rush as well (I enjoyed both but not as much as Demon Copperhead).

I read Two Caravans for book club 2, which was depressing despite the humour. A search for other people's thoughts revealed I picked it up from the library in 2010 but don't recall ever reading it before. :lol:

I’ve now bought 7 books in 48 hours. I couldn’t pass up the chance of getting books signed by Robin Ince. I missed out on the Bibliomaniac one, but the others sounded so good, having flicked to the chapter listing in each. His talk was so good! Plus he brought a selection of books down from the shop and told us why we should read those instead of (as well as) his. I’m making an exception to my loose rule of trying only to read books by women and reading his.

I have just finished The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams which I really enjoyed.

I finished Young Mungo last night, it was really good but also very bleak. It was set in Glasgow, in the late 80s/early 90s (I think, he doesn't specify exactly when) so I enjoyed the references but it was still quite grim.

I'd like something a bit lighter next so I think I might try the new Curtis Sittenfeld.

I wasn't totally keen on Billingham's new detective, either, sal. I enjoyed all the north west and Blackpool backdrop, though, and the plot was solid enough (I have read some absolute shit recently) so I marked it as a perfectly satisfactory pot boil thriller. I then tried Wake by Shelley Burr and gave up halfway through as I couldn't like any of the characters, thought she was dropping over heavy hints but never explaining anything well and it just got lost in the middle. I swear there were about fifty pages about driving about the scenery. I dearly love Jane Harper but I hold her personally responsible for getting a shedload of bad Australian crime promoted more than it deserves.

Yes, I liked the setting of The Last Dance too.

I quite enjoyed Wake but it's definitely nowhere as good as Jane Harpers books.
