The Dry is part of a trilogy, Lils.

And yes, the School for Bad Mothers was a rather traumatic head-fuck but one I'm glad I experienced. So lazz: thank you!

The second one is Force of Nature and the third is Exiles, I think, Lily.

Ah, glad you're glad to have read it, Dutchie!

Ah I see! I didn't realise they all formed a trilogy.

I wouldn't say they're a trilogy, as the stories aren't interlinked. They all feature Aaron Falk but the stories are separate.

I read The Vanishing of Margaret Small, which was really good & reminded me a bit of Elizabeth Is Missing.

I’ve now started on Rodham, which seems quite boring so far :))

:mischief: I really liked Rodham, aside from the sex scenes.

I have read Sarah Winman's Still Life, then The Year of Marvellous Ways. I liked Still Life more, TYOMW was good, but a bit fey (even for me). My library has a copy of Trespasses, so I might see if I can pick that up over the weekend.

Fire Rush was really good. I’m still not clear on exactly what happened, but the rhythm of it was brilliant. There’s a Spotify playlist I’m going to check out.

Flora, have you read Black Butterflies?

I just finished Wake by Shelley Burr, which wasn’t Jane Harper but was still enjoyable. I’ve now finally started Carrie Soto is Back (only 99p on Kindle currently) and am loving it already.

I’ve finally finished Rodham & it was a slog. It was written in such a monotonous voice with so much unnecessary detail, plus the aforementioned cringey sex scenes  It all felt a bit inappropriate and insulting to the real HC too and I feel like it need to read her autobiography now to find out more of her actual life & feelings :)) It was an interesting perspective to write about though.

I recently finished The Whispers by Ashley Audrain. Stark look at motherhood in a wealthy suburb. Basically, nobody is happy.

I’m now on My Murder by Katie Williams. A woman is brought back as a clone of herself after being murdered by a serial killer.

After months of depressing and/or bad books, I'm having a much better time with this month's two book club choices. The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry was delightful, but I have no desire to see the film. And I'm a good way through Lessons in Chemistry and enjoying it.

I finished Lessons in Chemistry with its very neat, Hollywood-esque ending but I did enjoy it. I even enjoyed the fact that I didn't love Elizabeth 100%, I liked that as a message.

Now it's time for Force of Nature.

I finished it too and, as I said to my MIL, it wasn’t perfect but I did enjoy it.

I’m now reading a detective book but the writing is doing my head in already. I don’t know if I need to know who killed the monk, no matter how much ‘Stephen Fry loves the main character’.

Yes! I enjoyed it - but it's a hard read in places.

I've just finished Birnam Wood (Eleanor Catton) and it's probably a 3.5 out of 5 for me? It's a thriller set in New Zealand involving a guerilla planting eco group and an American billionaire and bits of it were really good, and bits weren't.
