Flora, have you read Black Butterflies?

Yes! I enjoyed it - but it's a hard read in places.

I've just finished Birnam Wood (Eleanor Catton) and it's probably a 3.5 out of 5 for me? It's a thriller set in New Zealand involving a guerilla planting eco group and an American billionaire and bits of it were really good, and bits weren't.

I’m now reading a detective book but the writing is doing my head in already. I don’t know if I need to know who killed the monk, no matter how much ‘Stephen Fry loves the main character’. :lol:

I stuck it out to the end, mainly because I was travelling, but won’t be reading any others.

I then started The Keeper of Stories at bedtime and didn’t stop until it was finished.

I haven't - my library didn't have it when I ordered the Women's Prize Shortlist, but I've just had another look and they've got it now so I might go and pick it up in the week :))

I reread The Ink Black Heart over the last few weeks,now that it's out in paperback. It took me bloody ages and I can't say I enjoyed it hugely although it was very readable.

I'm now reading Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfeld which I love! It's so sharp and well written.

The message board stuff was horrendous in the Ink Black Heart, I thought, sal. And there's never enough of the Strike/Robin storyline.

I read Force of Nature in record time and really enjoyed it. I'm now on Them and then I shall be starting I'm Sorry You Feel That Way. I've had a really good run of enjoyable books lately, long may it continue!

I finished Atlas by Lucinda Riley and really enjoyed it. I like it when a storyline gets wrapped up neatly. Not exactly highbrow literature but I love 'easy' books when I'm busy/tired.

Am now reading Between Us, the new Mhairi McFarlane book and I love it so far.

I finished My Murder, and I enjoyed it. Murder, motherhood, cloning and intrigue.

Next is Maeve Fly by CJ Leede, which is a horror that looks very different. It’s labelled as a feminist slasher. The cover alone is pretty interesting!

I reread The Ink Black Heart over the last few weeks,now that it's out in paperback. It took me bloody ages and I can't say I enjoyed it hugely although it was very readable.

It took me aaaages too but I really loved the format, having struggled at first. It's the kind of thing I wanted to reread immediately to see it with knowledgeable eyes.

I just finished Masquerade: The Lives of Noel Coward. It was bloody good although it was like Prometheus's liver... you kept thinking it had ended and then there was another chapter. I'm now on Tudor Children by Nicholas Orme.

I finished Romantic Comedy today, I really liked it. Before I read it, I listened to an interview with Curtis Sittenfeld and she talked about research that had been done into relationships and sense of humour. Both men and women said that they wanted a partner with a good sense of humour. When they dug into that though, what women wanted was a partner who would make them laugh, whereas men wanted was a partner who will laugh at their jokes :woteva:
