Re: IWLTS it is 2023
My youngest son moved out for the third time in November. I still have a bookshelf full of books and stuff in both the spare rooms. I have told him he has until the end of the month to sort it even if he just puts some in the attic. I will be having my granddaughter overnight when her mum goes back to work and need to sort out her room

Perfectly put! I love him for it. It's not theft - he's borrowing it.
When my friend's parents downsized they gave my friend a date by which they'd chuck his stuff if he didn't want it. He went down to pick it up BEFORE this and they'd already thrown out the stuff they thought was rubbish (he collects magazines) - he barely spoke to them for a couple of years after that. As long as J doesn't do that, he should be fine to remove their stuff and put it in a skip after the deadline.

I think there's a big difference between storing stuff from an ex when you split up years ago, and keeping some stuff from your kids who, although they might have moved out, might not be properly settled/have as much space/have the time to sort things out immediately.

I have stuff from my boys in the loft. I did make them go through it but I want some of it here. When I split with the ex he had about 10 mins to get his shit before I binned it :)) maybe 5.

My proudest moment was giving a £300 bottle of whiskey J left in the house to my friend's husband, who promptly downed a load of it while drunk
This was after about a year of telling him to remove all his shit.

The women in Margo's situation have had time though, and none have complained they don't have space.Kenickie wrote: ↑Mon Jul 17, 2023 6:21 pm I think there's a big difference between storing stuff from an ex when you split up years ago, and keeping some stuff from your kids who, although they might have moved out, might not be properly settled/have as much space/have the time to sort things out immediately.
Fabulous work, Smun!
My friend's ex boyfriend left an expensive jumper at my house; I gave him a deadline to pick it up which passed, so I gave it to the charity shop. Literally 1 week later he asked if he could pick it up from me. I had great pleasure in giving him the address of said charity shop.

Re: IWLTS it is 2023
I cleared my parents’ attic of all our stuff about two years ago in an effort to get my dad to insulate the attic after about 20 years. My mother has been struggling to get my sister to take boxes of stuff; if it was up to me they’d all be binned now.
IWLTS: who sent me this? And how long should I wait until I spend it? I got a random voucher emailed to me that’s worth a good bit of money. I suspect it’s an error and they’ll cancel it - there’s no way to tell who actually sent it and it’s for quite a bit of money - a few hundred euro. So I’ll sit tight for now just in case.

Can the company at least tell you if it was sent intentionally?
My nanna got sent a Harvey Nichols hamper once with no gift message. She rang up and while they wouldn’t say who it was from, they did say it was definitely for her.
IWLTS I really don’t want you messing this up for us. Please just behave and don’t be bitter.

:)) Nope! I just seem to remember that the step daughters are still fairly young (20s?) so I think should be cut some slack.

I have the opposite problem in that I've kept things I think my kids should want but they definitely don't. :lol:Margo wrote: ↑Mon Jul 17, 2023 6:52 am Hi Five
Yes, J is my beloved…
His ex wife moved out some 14 years ago. His daughters are grown up with homes of their own. Yet his house still has their stuff stored. In the loft, one living room, the office, one bedroom, and loads of odd bit in the dog room (which is a lovely large utility room with loads of storage space). It’s such that it’s stopping me from selling up, moving in and us getting married because I am absolutely not selling my beautiful house and moving into a house with so much stuff in that I truly believe they don’t actually want or have any intentional of ever taking.
Js stance is that it’s not his so doesn’t want to just get rid of it. Mine is that they’ve had years to deal with it, and the fact that they haven’t says all he needs to know.
There’s been progress; I’m over there for 2 weeks in august when J is off, and I’ve almost talked him into getting a skip and being done with it. A lot can go to charity, a lot will probably just be binned. It’s driving me nuts but I can’t get involved other than to chip away at J and get him to see the ridiculousness of storing crap.
I don't think you're wrong in wanting to move into a situation that's a fresh start. The girls are grown and can take their things. If there's a bedroom that used to be theirs, I'd put as much as I could in there and get rid of the rest. One room can be the temporary compromise, but you shouldn't be asked to move into a cluttered environment.

I think the girls are perfectly capable of sorting their crap out; they just can’t be bothered.

The girls have their own houses though. We're all guilty of doing what they're doing, myself included - but do it you must.

IWLTS - Please fix your camera angle.
I probably will say this but it annoys and amuses me equally. I have a new teammate, a young guy, perfectly pleasant person but every time we're in a meeting his camera cuts off his lower face so I only see him from the nose up.
Reminds me of this.

The thing is, it's Margos partner who is really at fault here. He needs to give them a date to get their stuff, and if they don't, then he chucks it. If he doesn't do that, why would they bother collecting it because they know he'll just keep storing it.
Obviously the girls/ex wife should take their stuff but they're clearly not going to, so it's down to him. He's the one Margo has some influence over, raging at the ex wife and daughters is futile (although entirely understandable) because they have no interest in pleasing Margo.

It is indeed. But Margo's venting about it in general, and this is the thread for that! Sometimes we just need people to go "that's shit" rather than being told we shouldn't feel xyz.
Speaking of which: I have actually done my IWLTS in a politer version and told the company I'm cross with that I am considering not working for them anymore because they make me feel shit. Which goes to show that sometimes it is better to S what YWLT.

(And I got no response to that at all, just an explanation of xyz.
I need to figure out another way of making £200 a month. Legally. Apparently OF people who claim they make a fortune from their feet aren't telling the whole truth so that's that idea out of the window. :bomb: )
