I can have the curved cupboards if I drop down to a slimline dishwasher. Is this a good idea? I really like the curved end cupboards, and as there are only two of us, so I think a slimline dishwasher should be enough, but I'm not sure, as I've never used one. I have asked for samples of (black) handles to be sent to the shop, and think I will go with a black sink. I can change the appliances to black as and when they die if I want to, but I can't justify doing it when they are all fine - the cooker is only a year old.

Our favourite beach house in Dungeness has a slimline dishwasher and I hate it! If you have family/friends over I think you will absolutely regret not having a full sized dishwasher.

I have a slimline dishwasher and it's fine if there is only two of you in the house. I'd run out of crockery and cutlery before filling a regular dishwasher! I do hand-wash saucepans though. It's been fine when I've had 6 guests to stay too. I don't have masses of people to stay tbf, and usually no more than 4 at a time, so I would go for it.

I had a slimline dishwasher and it was fine. We have a full size one now because it was the best fit for our kitchen but we had plenty of space. If space was limited, I'd have been happy with a slimline one.

I’ve had a slimline dw before and it was ok for just me. I don’t have one at all here but J & I definitely need a normal sized one!

I wash saucepans, sharp knives etc by hand too but I guess I cook a lot from scratch which does increase the amount you need to put in the dishwasher! When I have family here I run it 3 times a day.

I cook everything from scratch too! I run mine every 1.5 days though. There are double the amount of people in your household though, the eating apparatus seems to make the most difference, as I do run it 2-3 times a day of there are guests here.

Eta. If it's just us, I do not use any serving dishes or cutlery.

I do use a lot of serving dishes and cutlery - pretty much everything is served family style.

Ha! Opposing views - inevitable with something like this, though. The main time when I have people here for several meals is Christmas. The rest of the time it's usually a couple of friends, or something like the film group, which is just four of us and M goes out. I'd prefer a full one, but I can't have both that and the curved cupboards, which I really like. I'm torn.

I don't know how the above post got there :)). I was cut off and logged out for some reason and when I got back in again there it was - half finished! I also cook from scratch a lot of the time, and do use serving dishes, but only for two usually. I don't hate washing up, so could do glasses and plates by hand, and wash pots, crockery and cutlery in the machine, I suppose.

I struggle not to run mine twice a day, and the chaps only use a couple of plates for breakfast/evening snack in the week as they have their main meal at school.

I guess it’s personal preference, as I think a slimline one would drive me mad. Maybe depends on the quick wash options? So at least if you were entertaining you could get through the cleaning quickly?

I was going to say it’ll depend on the cycle. My sister has a slimline and a family of 4 and survives. I would prefer not though. Similarly, I would be thinking “in for a penny in for a pound” on the kitchen at this point and if you can afford it, go all new everything and make it actually what you want.

The inside of our conservatory is pretty much done now, and it’s made an enormous difference now to the layout of the house/flow and obviously the temperature!

Before, the French doors opened into the room, wonkily, and it was a bit of a pain walking/navigating around them when entertaining/serving food, etc. The only picture I’ve got to demonstrate is when I did the boys a Valentine’s Chinese banquet, so apologies for the balloon romance :lol:

It's not about the cost - it's the space available, which is L shaped. If I move the washing machine and dishwasher to where they won't stick out, the wall is shorter than the one they are on now, so there is not an option to have both a curved cupboard and a full-size dishwasher. The curved cupboards are a more expensive option, even with the smaller dishwasher, but I like the look of them more. The question is about the aesthetic versus the practical implications of the large/small dishwasher, not about the cost.

This is the after… we’ve kept the main wall white for now (although I loved the black) because I think it ties in better with the other room. We’ve done the dwarf walls the same dusky colour as that room too.

It looks so much bigger now, and brighter.
