George is at a technology academy and there was no requirement for a creative subject. It was actively discouraged in the literature which I was pretty shocked by! He’s doing triple science and triple maths though :emme:

Triple maths? Is that Maths, Further Maths and Statistics? At our high school, Stats is offered (by invitation) as an additional after school class in Yr10 so they sit it early.

Yes. And maths. And loads of others tbh. Our head of science is off and we've had a sequence of weird supply teachers for the past 6 months.

I bloody love it when people you respect tell you they hate other people. My PhD supervisor hates everyone, and I love her more for it. It helps that they’re all the people I hate.

Ugh, we went to the open house of B's local secondary school and pretty much hated it. I was previously hoping that's where he would go, because I'm just not sure about him fitting in at R's school.

So now he's definitely applying to both. He won't find out until May if he gets accepted to R's school, as he has to apply out of area so may not get in.

Not really, because it goes by school boundary areas therefore siblings are (usually) in the same boundary so it's not factored in specifically.

R got in based on applying to a specialist visual arts program (which she is now switching to enriched dance). B doesn't want to commit to doing any of their specific arts programs, so is applying to an entirely different program which offers a teaching environment based on interdisciplinary group project work for the first semester. I'm on the fence about that, but it's only for the first half of the year and then he's in. Mr LM thinks it sounds amazing, so for a change let's hope he's right and I'm wrong.

It’s also project based. It’s very niche over here but I have a feeling it’s more popular in North America.

I'm awaiting the news of B's out-of-area application this Wednesday. His guidance teacher will be calling me once he knows the decision, then we need to lock in on his choice.

F has finally decided on his A levels; English Lit, History, Sociology and Business as an AS. Now he just needs to get the grades to get in, he walks his arty subjects but struggles with the maths/science ones but let's see. Part of me is a bit chuffed as, other than Business, they're all A-level subjects that I did and I think he is going to absolutely love Sociology.

Betty wants to study sociology too.

Cube has just applied to EDF for their apprenticeship programme. If he gets in he moves to Somerset on the 25th August for 2 years.

I think this speaks very highly of her :)) It was my degree and I loved it - less so at degree level but certainly A level. I'm so excited for him to give up maths/science etc!

A levels, apprenticeships and FE institutions is all a bit scary, but will come around soon enough for us.

Does B still prefer the out of area school, Lm?

S has put in his options for 3rd year - physics, history, music performance, music technology, business management and French - he will drop one subject in 4th year. He has no choice but to do maths, English, pe and re.
