Re: Read the Room
I finished Standard Deviation which really was laugh-out-loud in places. Didn't really care for the two main characters but it was very readable.
Now I'm on to a new detective series set in Buenos Aires, The Fragility of Bodies. The translation of the dialogue sometimes leaves something to be desired, but I'm very into it after 60 pages.

I’ve been struggling to read much but finally got into City of Girls & finished it last night. It was fine, but didn’t really go anywhere.

Yeah, bit of a non-entity, that one, but perfectly readable.

I've finally finished Fourth Wing in my lunch break just now. I've been incredibly busy at work and not reading much plus I lost interest two thirds of the way through. I did basically enjoy it and will probably read the next one in a bit.

All The Light We Cannot See is on my list, there’s a queue for it in the local library though.

I'm halfway through my second Jackson Brodie and love it even more than the first.

Re: Read the Room
I’ve just finished reading Black by Design- memoir by Pauline Black, lead singer of The Selecter who I’m going to see next month. It made me cry it was so evocative and honest about her life and her family. Loved it
I met her before I saw The Selecter in 2019 and she was lovely, she dedicated Missing Words from the stage to me later on.

I finished Mother Animal by Helen Jules on the bus this afternoon. It was really good and now I’m worried about everything, especially forever chemicals. But I’m also having to forget everything so I can continues to live in the world we have.

I just finished the new Lianne Moriarty which was her best yet I think.
I started City of Girls but couldn't get into it, sounds like it's not worth trying again then.

It was nothing special, Ken.
Has anyone read House of Fortune? Am weighing up re-reading The Miniaturist beforehand.

No, but I liked The Miniaturist so will add it to my list. A re-read (or a watch of the TV series) sounds like a good plan!
ETA - I rushed through "To Be Taught, If Fortunate" by Becky Chambers for tomorrow's work book group discussion. I think I might look at her series, which one of my colleagues has recommended before, as I enjoyed the writing and was disappointed by the novella length, so I think a deeper story is worth a try!

I finished Blue Sisters the other night, I really liked it.
I'm now reading the latest Mark Billingham, which features his "new" detective. I wasn't mad about the first novel featuring him but this one was cheap online so I figured I'd give him another chance.

Re: Read the Room
I started a new Jodi Picoult as I fancied an easy read, but now a couple of chapters in it appears to be, at least in part, set in Elizabethan England which I don't fancy at all.

I'm reading the new Marian Keyes "My Favourite Mistake". It feels like a treat to have a new one.

I’ve nearly finished reading Normal Rules Don’t Apply, which is a collection of short stories by Kate Atkinson. I love her witty & cheerful style of writing. All the stories are sort of interlinked so it’s been like reading a novel anyway.

I’m reading Perfection by Vincenzo Latronico. It’s really good and he was impressive at the author event. It’s like an inventory of stuff, but a commentary on life and kind of mesmerising.

Ooh, I like the sound of everything about that.
