Re: "May You Live In Interesting Times": Brexit 2019
I would absolutely love it if he was hoist by his own petard, but sadly I think his type always come up smelling of roses (not wishing to mix my metaphors)
I do take some small comfort from the fact that he ended up as PM in one of the worst times. It wasn't the piece of piss he imagined that it would be

I think he must have hated nearly every day of being Prime Minister, so there's that, aye.

I don't see why Rishi Sunak would be any better. Wasn't he effectively appointed by Dominic Cummings? Every time we look forward to the demise of one PM we just end up with an even worse one.

I love thinking of how much he is "suffering" at the moment.

He wouldn't. We're going to be punished for his "generosity", and be told to be grateful.

I think because he doesn't look like a burst balloon, people assume he will be more competent than Johnson, but he'll be quite the right-winger.

There aren't many (any) likely options though - he's seen as being more palatable to the nation than many but so is a diseased big toe.

Maybe George Osborn will make the comeback he threatened in a Times magazine article earlier this year. :pop:

Who knows if this is true, but it sounds plausible:

Oh my god, you can just imagine that! Its like the time he was appointed as Foreign Secretary and someone pointed out that the only candidate less suitable would be Prince Philip

Nothing about that is in the least bit incredible. It’s classic Johnson and entirely on brand.Mountain Goat wrote: ↑Fri Dec 11, 2020 12:09 pm Who knows if this is true, but it sounds plausible:

I hate being represented by him so much. I wish I could divorce myself from this government.

This thread by Alex Andreou is a good, clear summation of where we are, I think.

That thread all makes perfect sense.
We appear to be a nation of stupid people, governed by greedy, selfish, stupid people. I don’t know how it feels to be kidnapped but that’s the analogy that springs to mind.

Re: "May You Live In Interesting Times": Brexit 2019
That's quite depressing but bears out my impression of the general unpreparedness of the majority of our UK suppliers, only 3 of whom have contacted us with any plan for customs clearance - which will need to be processed either by them or by us, regardless of any deal. Of those three, one has sent me a completely nonsensical email, claiming that there was no need to take any action immediately, as there would be a 6 month transition period from 1st January! Eh???

That is a very clear summary. But very depressing.Mountain Goat wrote: ↑Fri Dec 11, 2020 6:22 pm This thread by Alex Andreou is a good, clear summation of where we are, I think.

How can we have go to this point with literally days to go to the end of the transition period and no hope of a deal unless it was the plan all along?
It’s like a normal midlife crisis only with more chandeliers and foreign languages.
