Books should not be burned! :ttth:
Not even the really shite ones? :))
Not all books are equal.
I remember burying The Lovely Bones on a beach after about 3 chapters. I thought it was terrible.

I've just finished The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston.

A bit of time travel which is always going to lure me in.

This book featured a new detective and I thought he was a real twat. I know readers tend not to like change (he's written about the same detective for years) but this was a bit of a let down.
Oh bugger, I have a crush on Tom Thorne. (and Mark Billingham)

I have just finished Sarah Churchwell's Marilyn Monroe. It was VERY heavygoing and banged on about Freud a lot (of whom I am not a fan) but basically it picks her biographers to pieces and points out how unreliable they are, and how they have contributed to an image of Marilyn which is unfair to put it mildly. I'm glad that I read it but blimey it was a labour of love.

I'm now on The Guest by Emma Cline, thanks to the readers on here!

I love Thorne too, MB says he's still going to write about him though.

I've just this minute finished Trespasses as well, and agree, it was excellent.

What shall we read next Flora? :)) I’ve got the other 3 shortlisted Women’s Prize novels. Fire Rush was at the top of the pile so I picked that.

:)) I finished Fire Rush a couple of weeks ago - I thought it was great but took me a little while to get into the language/ writing style.

I'm going to read Birnam Wood next as it's due back at the library soon.

I read that in a COVID fever, Epp, and loved it. Made everyone else on here read it and traumatised most of them. :woteva:

Cleopatra and Frankenstein has sparked the same fervour in me but now I'm too scared to actively tell people to read things. :))

And I'm whipping my way through The Dry which is an appropriate read today, since it was 34°.

Absolutely - really atmospheric. I enjoyed it, very satisfying. I've reserved the second installment at the library for next week.

I really loved the Dry although I read it in the winter so I kept being surprised when I looked up and it was so cold and wet. The other two instalments are excellent too, lazz.

I didn't realise it came in three installments. Or is it being published differently?

I'm on Sun Damage by Sabine Durrant, a bit of a thriller about a scam artist on the run. It sounds formulaic but it's surprisingly good.
