Re: Strange & Unusual Houses
I suppose I'm thinking of the cost if you build it yourself. But a large conservatory like that costs a fortune!

Re: Strange & Unusual Houses
Digging a swimming pool sized hole (even a small swimming pool size), and then building a retaining wall sufficient to withstand the force of the land around the hole, then making it suitably water tight, is pretty expensive though (and a pretty technical job for a self builder). I take your point though, they've made a shit compromise when you'll bang your head on the way into the pool!

Re: Strange & Unusual Houses
Here I think people mostly use the polyester shells (not sure if that's the right translation - like a massive bath :) ), so you "just" have to dig the hole, put gravel in, put the shell in, fill the edges with gravel, and put a bit of concrete & steel around the lip to solidify it. Apparently you can get an inground of some description for as little as 5k€.

I really don't like those above-ground ones. Not that I am in a position to have to worry about such purchases, of course.

Same here. But they do look very silly and I can't imagine it being particularly relaxing or fun to swim in, given how tiny they are.

All perfectly tasteful until picture #10 and....the very stuff of nightmares as you nip downstairs for a glass of water in the middle of the night.

As you are attacked by a seagull in the middle of the night. Ugh!

A seagull would be bad enough I quite agree, but I think it's meant to be 'angel wings' :woteva:

Is it pathetic that my first thought, in my mother's voice, was 'What a dust trap!'

Angels, seagulls, whatevs. Dusty feathers creeping around the house. It's like the start of a horror film!

I agree with Viggy, they'll hardly fit in a standard wardrobe so I guess that's the best storage area.
Ooh, me arse!

Re: Strange & Unusual Houses
Look at that house though, it has been totally tidied and dressed for sale. You'd get those bloody things (whether they're decorative or meant to be worn for whatever freaky angel sex the owners might enjoy) out of the damn way too!

yeah, I totally don't buy that at all. 'I've tidied up and dressed it for sale, OOPS left the 3ft fancy dress angel wings on the stairs though!'. Nah. They are achingly placed there.

Are they left over from a Pride costume?

Picture #8. A bold 'style' statement.

Gosh. Also, do they have a clear TV? Is that a thing now?

Oh! Blimey. Isn't it just?! Its all a bit try-hard. The photographer was obsessed with photos of the stairs.Derek Nimmo wrote:Picture #8. A bold 'style' statement.
The TV is just reflecting, isn't it?

 I was trying to work out what on earth you meant Ella!
Yes, it's all a tad 'shabby chic threw up in here' isn't it?
