I went to the Bath one with BroPo and it was really good. She had pizza and I had pie . I must try the Bristol one.

I was tempted by pie but pizza will always win, given the choice. ;)

Was it the one on S'hall street?
It was  I certainly wouldn't pop in for a quick lunchtime meal. S's ice cream did come out in record speed though.

Thanks Ken, in beijing? I'm annoyed as I haven't actually had any Sichcuan food yet and I really want to try it!

Have you been to the Gloucester Old Spot (sister restaurant)? I've only been a couple of times but really liked it.
Yes, once, I liked that too. So really all my personal experiences of both branches have been good!

That's weird about the prawns, Ken.
My sister regularly orders salads but its her pet peeve that they frequently come without one or more of the main ingredients.

Yep, in Beijing!

That's so strange, Smal. I wouldn't have been bothered if it was like a side vegetable or something but missing a main part is just odd, and I don't know how the first waiter didn't realise as they were pretty obvious once there.

I am enjoying this thread and picking what I would eat from the menus. I am also irrationally amazed at there being a California-Korean place in Beijing, even though I know full well that it has changed dramatically since I was last there about 25 years ago. But still. Foreign food! (other than KFC). WTF. For some reason this blows my mind more than skyscrapers and actual real roads and cars.

I am gung ho about trying all the local places that have opened up around here in the past few years, as I trot out mindlessly to the same two pubs each time (one of which has very hit and miss food).

It was no problem for us as we were trying to kill time but it is officially off the list for work lunches because speed is not their strong point. :))

We've eaten out a fair bit since being here, some good some not so good. My favourite so far has been this place;

http://ficklepicklecafe.com

We had the half basket of fried pickles for the table which we couldn't finish between the 4 of us.

There are adecent Mexican and Pizzia places less than a 5 minute walk away so we went to the Mexican last night and they had a Pointless style quiz night and tacos were 99c and beer was $1.99 so that was a nice surprise.

The boys and I went to the pizza place on Tuesdays and I already posted about the monster portion sizes.

Isn't there a TV show with a fickle pickle cafe in it?

I've not seen it on TV but a quick google revealed that an episode of the West Wing was filmed in a cafe called the Fickle Pickle. But not the one I went to.

There's 5 minutes I'll never get back.

I have just been to La Choza, Mexican gaff for lunch (calamari, then the crispy fish burrito). It's very nice* if not entirely authentic - for that, I'm holding out for dinner next week at a new place just down the road which looks AMAZING. More then :))

*And filling. The top button of my jeans is giving me gyp :flollop:

OMG Olive I would eating my way through that place's menu in a flash! :)) I don't suppose we can tempt you to start up a thread of some of your Southern food experiences, with links and photos, can we? :weewee: I would be all over that :))

They do really good brunch. I alternate between there and BTP.

I went to Tortilla http://www.tortilla.co.uk/ last night, it was good for a quick and fairly cheap meal.
I ate at a Tortilla recently. It was very tasty!

If you like looking at American menus this is our standard Mexican place. Everything they do is good but I usually get the stuffed zucchini.

Ooh, Brian Maule is nice Shoe.

The last place we went was The Gannet, and the food was delicious though portions on the small side. The salted caramel fondant was out of this world though :hbeat:

We also went to Venachar Lochside recently, and again delicious food but left peckish (maybe it's us and our gargantuan appetites... :woteva: )

M and I went to The Anchor Line for our anniversary, which we loved. The décor has a 'Poirot on a cruise' feel about it, :)) the food was lovely, and I had the best cocktail I've ever had - a Smoked French 75, with toasted rosemary. :love2:

I had a massive ploughman's lunch earlier. There's some consternation because both the pub and café are offering them.
