We ate at Northcote last night and it was amazing. The food was fantastic and our room was lovely. I definitely want to go back!

I've just had 24 hours of FOOD.

Afternoon tea here at The Salt Room which was excellent - particular stand outs were the truffle toasties (basically mini sourdough cheese toasties with the tiniest hint of truffle :hbeat: ) and cod fritters. The madeleines were really lovely too, but the clouds of candy floss they gave us at the end were a tad sugar overkill

And then I've just taken a long lunch at a local pub, where The Brighton Roast Company have taken residence and will be serving roasts EVERY DAY, ALL DAY. The mini Yorkshires were a-m-a-z-i-n-g. (There's a picture of them, with their dipping gravy, on the pub's Tripadvisor page.

Have - briefly - some pictures of my colleagues enjoying the tea. Gin had been taken...

I love the sound of the toasties.

I forgot about this thread and now I am dying for a truffle toastie.

I went to Two Lights last night*. I've been desperate to go since it opened in Oct and finally forced my friend to go with me. It was brilliant. I had read all the major reviews beforehand, and pretty much picked my choices, but the menu had been changed quite a lot, and I'm guessing partly in response to some of the review comments, as a few of the weaker dishes had gone. This is a bad photo of the menu as it was last night (different from the online one and different to Grace Dent's from a few days ago), with the first letter or so missing from everything.:))

We had:

Crab on beef fat chips
Flatbread of mussels and Brussels
Sea bass tartare, creme fraiche and capers
Rice porridge, snails and chicken skin (it also had lightly pickled cauliflower, tarragon and chervil)
Hen of the woods, dulse and egg yolk (with creme fraiche on the top)
Stuffed guinea fowl, broccoli and yuzu (it was actually yuzu kosho)
Charlotte potatoes, nduja and almond milk

And a bottle of the most amazing Czech orange wine, which has the vine leaves in it too (I mean in the production, not floating in the wine).

My favourite dish was the rice porridge, which had so many little surprises and different flavours in it, to the point where I was having the best time trying to identify everything I could taste (and was thrilled with myself when I checked with the waiter and I had it bang on). :)) The guinea fowl was stunningly moist and well flavoured, the hen of the woods went with it gorgeously (that was my friend's favourite dish). The flatbread was the least exciting but was still nice. The table next door basically ordered everything we didn't, and it all looked and smelled fantastic. Especially the pork belly, which was very generously sized (perhaps in response to Grace Dent's review where she didn't feel sated?) The ray, which my friend didn't fancy, also looked brilliant.

We had planned on cheese for afters but were too stuffed. Maybe they've upped all the portions actually.

* the chef is an alumni of Clove Club and Momofuku-Ko, hence my excitement.

Momofuku!! I'm there!

I went to the most amazing pasta restaurant for lunch last week, Bancone, and nine went the day after. We both had the same dish which is their signature - silk handkerchiefs with walnut butter. OMG SO GOOD. Everyone must go.

Ooh. Going on my neverending list.

I'm assuming silk handkerchiefs is some form of pasta. :)) (I can't get the menu to load. :lg: )

I went again last night, Emma, and had the ricotta ravioli with mushrooms. Again, delicious, as is the ox-tail ragu.

I can't get the menu but I read Grace Dent's review and bloody hell, £8! Next time I have to pay for everyone, that's where we're going. :))

That looks lovely! And so handy to know about, being affordable and central, which usually equals average at best.

Oh - that looks so good!

I am slightly narked to say the least that I got an email last night from Restaurant Story saying that Daniel Clifford was doing a pop-up there in January and by the time I tried to book (4 minutes after the email was sent), I couldn't get a table

Oh god, how frustrating. I went to Midsummer House for my nephew's graduation, a lifetime ago, and it was amazing, even though I had to leave before the second dessert to catch my train.

That pasta looks good.

The wine wasn’t Pheasant Tears, was it, Goat? Something like that?

I’ve been to a few places recently.

- Rovi (The newish Ottolenghi one.) Much-anticipated but disappointing. I much prefer Nopi. Also our waiter was terrible and surly, but the other ones seemed quite nice.

- La Chapelle (Galvin). This was wonderful! Amazing food but the staff were really lovely and not at all stuffy. (Lots of women in senior roles on the floor too.) We had dinner this time but we’re going to go back for lunch in January some time.

I looked it up earlier and it's not that, but similarly poetic. :)) It's Petr Korab – Natur Rysak “On Leaves” 2017

That's a pity about Rovi. I've been meaning to go but haven't, and now I am less enthusiastic.
