Me too, so I can't decide if her saying no would be more devastating than interviewing her would be terrifying. I do speak English, I hope that makes sense

I really like Francesca Happe, she's very sensible. She asked for info from autistic women on Twitter before she did that post so she could refine what she was saying. Obvs half of it turned into a bunfight, but hey, that's they joy of Twitter.
I am going seeing Steve Silberman in May! I am v excited about this. He is wonderful.

I had to unfollow half the insanos. Now I just mostly talk about knitting and cats with the nice ones. :))

I thought of you last week Battersby when I went to see Caroline Criado Perez at the book festival - it was a joint session with Gina Rippon, a neuroscientist who challenges all the stuff about male/female brains. She had a right go at SBC :))

Oh, I missed this when you posted, sal. I periodically get the urge to send a really stroppy email to SBC. I might just do it one day, get it out of my system. :))
WAAAY back in this thread somewhere I mention role models, as does Lora. It also really annoys me that people looking for examples for young autistics scrabble about and retrospectively diagnose people like Einstein and Darwin. BUT. Honestly, could you do any better than Greta Thunberg? I am in actual awe of her. I really hope she doesn't read some of the stick she's getting from twats like Toby Young, but on the other hand, I kind of think she's probably sensible enough to know they're just massive dicks.

This is a good (if somewhat shouty) extrapolation on the uneven skill profile/everyone's NOT a bit on the spectrum thing I've banged on about before.

Re: Simon Baron-Cohen can stuff right off
That is a very interesting read. It seems like the author considers it more of a syndrome than a spectrum? Or just a disorder or a condition? The light spectrum is not in order of redness or blueness but it is in order of wavelength so it does go from short to long and is certainly a scale, but I don’t think she really thinks autism is on any sort of a scale so I’m not entirely sure her analogy holds. Would it be better to get rid of the term spectrum? We don’t think of any other developmental disorders that I can think of as being on a spectrum at all. Does the term add anything?

Someone #actuallyautistic got tweeted into my timeline (from an unconnected person :)) ) saying that neurotypical people using non-verbal communication/signals/clues were discriminatory and that we should just stop doing it. As if it's a conscious part of our behaviour. STOP DOING FACIAL EXPRESSIONS!Bat Macdui wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 6:10 pm I had to unfollow half the insanos. Some of them are properly nuts, and hellbent on reinforcing us v them, which is the opposite of useful. I'm already looking forward to the inevitable hate when I start publishing stuff :))Ruby wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2019 10:27 amSomeone #actuallyautistic got tweeted into my timeline (from an unconnected person :)) ) saying that neurotypical people using non-verbal communication/signals/clues were discriminatory and that we should just stop doing it. I mean I do get it's frustrating when everyone else's way of doing things is the default but ... *pulls a facial expression*

Fig, I think we're miles away from any form of definition that can be nailed down. And also I don't think there'll ever be one that is universally accepted. I like the article because it gives a different perspective and these sort of perspectives help to break down stereotypes.
