Re: Time For A Change
Two days (Thursday and Friday) and it would be a job share with someone doing Monday to Wednesday, so presumably swapping will be limited.

Might be worth taking if offered, knowing freelance will just eat into free time for at least short term. With Brexit and a potential move a bit of a pot won't hurt.

The Thursday and Friday-ness of it would put me off, personally.
I hear you on the Brexit fear. How much is it likely to affect you, or is it just impossible to tell?

Yes, I would prefer something with more flexibility if I were part time.
Good luck, pip.

I actually wouldn’t take it if I were you, mine. I totally get how tempting it is (as you know, we do very similar work), but seems like you’ve been doing brilliantly since you went freelance, and it wold definitely curtail your freedom/availability etc.

Thursday/Friday makes no difference to me at all.
That's my concern, Ashley. I don't need it (at the moment). My turnover was up 25% last year. But Brexit...

How much of a financial disaster would it be to have some months which weren't so good in terms of income?

Re: Time For A Change
I could just about manage a year without any income, but it would be very tight. Obviously that is an absolute worst case scenario though.

Obviously it's personal and you've got to do what you think feels right, but I'd be inclined to stick with what you're doing, if its much better financially and is ok for now. You've got a decent cushion by the sounds of it. Unless the PT job can be more flexible than it sounds or you really like the sound of it, of course.

Re: Time For A Change
If you can manage a year without income I definitely wouldn't bother unless it was flexible and something you really wanted to do!

I will ask more about the flexibility side.

My experience of paid jobs is that they're less secure than being SE, mind you. One months notice and you're gone.

Yeah if you have a year’s cushion, I wouldn’t even consider it! I’m sure you could pick something similar up if it became necessary. Unless it’s something brilliant/interesting that you really fancy.

Re: Time For A Change
I am starting a really exciting little events business with a friend and we already have some gigs lined up for that, which is another reason I'm a little hesitant.

It sounds like your gut feeling is a no, so go with that.

I agree with Squirrel. You've lots of reasons to not go for it, but you've only mentioned Brexit as a reason to be in a stable job. And even then, that doesn't guarantee anything other than a months notice period.

Re: Time For A Change
I’ve withdrawn my application. They had come back saying there was no flexibility, meaning I’d only have two days’ holiday left until the end of the year due to prior work commitments falling on Thursdays and Fridays. That was the nail in the coffin for me.
