 I used to get one called Get Crafty or something like that. They gave away a stencil with ever copy because it was, like, 1995 so of course they did. God I loved that magazine. I thought I'd rag roll the shit out of a house when I finally got one

I stencilled borders in my first flat. I was very judgey of people with poor stippling technique - aka my neighbour who splatted navy suns and moons all over her custard yellow walls. Mine were works of art in comparison.

She rag-rolled her kitchen too - peach with terracotta and had a crack at marbling her bathroom cabinet with a tester pot and a feather.

I still have my coloured bottles in a box somewhere.

  'custard yellow with navy sun and moon stencils' and 'peach with terracotta rag rolling' it's the 90's dream.

I babysat once in a house in the next road and they'd stencilled EVERYTHING. The walls, the furniture, up the stairs, even the white goods couldn't avoid a swagged stencilling.

We had a great painting weekend at a friend's house in the mid-90s - I think they were the first of us to buy a house? I spent a fruitful day painting the hallway custard yellow then rag-rolling peach over it. I then presented them with a handmade-made housewarming gift - a Disaronno bottle which I had painted like the sky of "Starry Night" and then decoupaged with suns and moons.

I'm sure Changing Rooms was responsible for alot of these paint techniques. I've heard it's coming back and dread to think what they will come up with next.

Home Front (in its original format before Lawrence LB got his mitts on it) was so good.

I loved all of those programmes so much and had the yellow/blue bedroom with the moon and stars.

My mum loved a bit of stippling and ragrolling too. She's still got this gold and cream pillar made of cardboard that she ordrered from somewhere and put together herself. I seem to remember that being a Changing Rooms thing.

I've been looking on eBay actually for the Laura Ashley catalogue that sparked my love of interiors. I used to pore over it for hours planning my dream home.

I'd honestly love to find the thing I mentioned, the interiors supplement. It feels very meaningful.

I had folders with interiors pictures I'd ripped out of magazines. I wish I'd not thrown them away now. They only one I kept was the recipe file.

I’ve still got a border in my hallway because it was there when we moved in & we’ve never decorated it :look:

I’ve seen in a few magazines lately that paint effects are back. They still look dreadful :))

I remember my ex rag-rolling our bedroom with a pinky-mauve colour; we thought it looked wonderful. It’s funny how fashions change. The Laura Ashley book of Home Decorating was my bible at the time!
It’s like a normal midlife crisis only with more chandeliers and foreign languages.

Wow, that is a definite “look”. The kitchen looks like a miniature version of a real one.

That flat looks like it was decorated by a teenager in full on emo mode.

My parents redid my old bedroom in the mid 90s as a spare room and it's still as they did it - border, different wallpapers above and below in bluey yellowy pattern, the works.

I don't know what I think about this but I wouldn't want to live there.

I hate it in almost all ways. The roof terrace view is ok #generous.
