I know it’s wishful thinking to think that we can just go back to how things were before so I get it, I do, but also… we can’t. It’s utterly shit, but some aspects of that life have gone.

Re: Testing times - Covid in 2022
Thanks emma and everyone. She's now got a confirmed case of mumps on top of the covid and is being dripped full of painkillers and fluids and sent home with an oximeter and cocodamol. My poor wean though, I feel so sorry for her and her miserable lumpy face
What I don't understand is how my mum guessed mumps as soon as looking at her last night but the three paramedics who came out didn't? Is it that rare these days that it wouldn't have been on their radar?

Oh my god, Sky, how awful. Maybe it is that rare, but I suspect they only look for it in men.

We're going to Limerick in February, Edith. It doesn't really call for that much excitement. Thanks, though. :))Edith Bacon wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 8:48 pm That’s great news, Zooms! Hurrah for negative tests and holidays![]()

Oh Sky, your poor sister! I had mumps when I was 5 and still remember it vividly as being really painful. To have it together with Covid is just really bad luck. Hope the meds help her and she feels better soon.

Oh, bloody hell Sky. I also had mumps when I was 5 and the only thing I remember is crawling around in pain. Fingers crossed the covid is keeping its head down and she can just get on with getting rid of the mumps. How unlucky!

I’m so sorry about your friend’s dad, Edith.
Sky: I guess mumps is super-rare these days. I hope your sis recovers soon and gets good painkillers. I still remember the pain of mumps as a tiny child, and my second son (who had the MMR jab from a bad/ineffective batch) talks about it as the worst time of his life :dramaqueen: even after having shingles.

It’s like a normal midlife crisis only with more chandeliers and foreign languages.

Your poor sister Sky. I hope she’s better.
I have an absolutely stinking cold. I think I caught it off my littlest nephew who I saw last week and who had a cold, but I also went to soft play and flew on a plane so have been in contact with plenty of other people. Nephew (and the rest of his family) had covid in early January.
I’m testing negative with LFT (both throat and nose ones), and I’m not planning to go anywhere for the next few days. Should I get a PCR?

Are you swabbing your throat as well? If not, maybe give that a go first. Omicron is detectable in the throat a few days before the nose, I think.

Yes I’ve done a throat swab test which was negative. I’ll do another one today though.

Thanks, 2 years ago I would have assumed it was just a standard cold but now I’m paranoid :))
