Not exactly cooking, but I was so excited to find this is Lidl! Before and 20 mins of hard labour later -

Lovely. I remember picking those on the kibbutz. Very heavy! We used to cut them up and put them in buckets of punch.

Must be all the pith making them so weighty! They grow in my sister's garden and she's perfected the art of getting each segment out in one piece. I absolutely have not :))

I saw them in my Lidl the last few weeks. They are lovely. I might get one.

Oh, I bought one of those last year and was all excited but it wasn't very tasty at all. It was Chinese too so that can't be the reason.

They're best in season (like all citrus) so probably best now til the end of Feb. You may have just got unlucky though.

Re: Hey! Good lookin’!
It was around Christmas IIRC. It was fine just less flavour than any European citrus and a bit dry. It was nice and plump and shiny so I don't think it'd gone over.

Yeah, unfortunately there's no way of telling how it's going to be from the outside!

On the subject of Lidl citrus fruit, I haven't seen a grapefruit for months.

Here we only have what they also call pomelos, but are like blood grapefruit. No normal grapefruit at all

Is a blood grapefruit the same as a ruby grapefruit?

Re: Hey! Good lookin’!
P recently made pea dhal with coconut chutney, which was bloody lovely.
https://peas.org/pea-dal-and-coconut-chutney/
The first night we had it with homemade chapatis, then we had it alongside broad bean stuffed puris and finally with a parsnip dhal with roasted parsnips and pickled pink onions (that we now have tonnes off to work through next  ).

It looks really delicious. The pea dal sounds amazing too.
I recently made a mushroom dal thing with a chutney and that was so good. The chutney really zinged it all up.

I'm ridiculously proud of this! An ottolenghi BNS and feta pie. It has several looong slowwww steps, but isn't complicated.
I had fried Polenta and broccoli with it.

Not cooked by me, but had the nicest lunch catch up with my fave teamies today, and ate some delicious pork bibimbap.
