Oh thank you! The table wobbles.
It might be user error as it's collapsible and I may have uncollapsed it incorrectly, and I've now got some felt pads I can cut to size to wedge under in an invisible way if not. It's taken me FOREVER to figure out what to do with that corner so I'm very glad people like it as I don't have very much faith in my abilities. :))

I also approve of both the lamp and the table.

I would love a hallway big enough to do that Goat.

It's definitely a luxury I'm very happy about. Not least when getting deliveries of large awkwardly shaped things. :))

Re: Ideal Homes- Show Us Your New Purchases!
Opening up my hallway has improved my life by a significant degree. It will wear off, but I still smile when I walk down it - specially at night when my automatic lights have come on #easilypleased.
I don't have anything to show for my latest purchase yet, but I have asked the carpenter to put dividers between the shelves on the bookcases to stop them from sagging, and it is going to cost £400
. I don't know what I expected, really, but in my head it was a finishing touch thing that would be more or less free, but clearly not. He's cut the price by a lot, apparently, by suggesting MDF (which he'll veneer) instead of solid wood, as you'll only see the end bits. I am notoriously bad at estimating costs for things though - I always think 'oh, let's do x - it will be a small job' and it turns out that you have to remove the walls and roof or something and it would cost more than the house is worth. Similarly, I tell myself I can't have y, and when I look into it it turns out that M can do it on a Saturday morning with a gizmo from B&Q that costs £20. I thought taking the stud wall under the stairs would need a builder and possibly a survey, but the decorator did it herself with a mallet .
Anyway - these are the bookcases (currently sans dividers), with the lights on and off, as modelled for the carpenter's FB ad (with my consent :) )

They look great, but I feel that if he designed them, he should have put enough support for them not to sag in the first place. My Mum's in exactly the same position, except that they're putting the extra support in themselves since they're utility cupboards and the inside is not usually visible any way.Morganna wrote: ↑Thu Feb 23, 2023 1:02 pm I have asked the carpenter to put dividers between the shelves on the bookcases to stop them from sagging, and it is going to cost £400. Thanks, Five and LM.
Yes, PG, I am a bit narked at that, tbh. He didn't mention the need for dividers in his quote. I wanted them in the first place as I think they look nice, and a strategically-placed 'thing' can break up rows and rows of books, so asked about them just to finish off the job, really. When he gave the price I was thinking of leaving it, at least for now, but then thought about the sagging potential. I asked him how likely it was that they would sag without the dividers in, and he said it was inevitable, regardless of the wood used. I'm not going to fret about the shelves in the cupboards, but I'm left with either shelling out now or potentially having a much bigger bill down the line to replace sagging bookshelves.

They do look great, Morgs! Is that the telescopic dining table in shot too? I think it would be worth doing the dividers to save the shelves sagging in the future but I agree he should have mentioned this when giving you the original design and quote! You should suggest he does this for future clients and hope he realises and gives you a discount.
We have some shelves that are built into a wall in our family room (along with with the tv and biofuel fireplace - I wouldn't have chosen any of this but we inherited it) and they sag despite only having paperbacks on them. I'll fix them one day (or knock the whole fake wall out
) but it would be easier with the original contact.
I bought a new vase for spring flowers - I'm hoping it will be just the perfect size and shape (I can never seem to have the right vase!)

Yes, emma, it's the table. We tend to leave it up with one leaf in it so it sits both of us comfortably with room to put the food in the middle. The only downside is that to use all four sides you'd have to remove all the leaves, as they block off the side of it that's against the wall when they're not in use. It's not the end of the world, but it's not ideal. Otherwise it's a really useful design, and it sat 8 of us at Christmas easily.
I am going ahead with the dividers, as I like the look of them, and it would be false economy not to, I think.
I love the vase. Is it the right size for tulips? I think they would look great in it.

That is a beautiful colour!
I have followed a local textile artist for a good while online after I bought a doll of hers (that she made as merch for a band I like) and have always admired her giant hand pillows. She used her whole stash of vintage fabric to make a set to put on sale and I got this one
I love it so much.

sorry Jet, but that kind of squicks me out irrationally. Each to their own, I suppose.

The fabric is amazing!
What’s on the other side? Because of the way it’s positioned it looks like a palm with nails which messes with my brain slightly :)
