This was entirely my view, to the eternal sadness of my Mum, who loves Wuthering Heights. Which is, now I think about it, really weird as she's very like me. Maybe after all this time I need to realise she's got hidden depths. Mind, I think her and my Dad were a bit of Grand Pash in their time. :))

I have finished Bess, which ended up a bit laboured, but maybe that's just historical biography. It doesn't flow as well as fiction. I'm onto Tessa Boase's book on Etta Lemon, founder of the RSPB, now. I'm enjoying it, but she does seem to have a tendency to tell you the same thing twice in slightly different words, which is odd and could become annoying.

The state we’re in. It was probably the least offensive looking option for first read one month.

Although I like Kate Mosse, I think I'll pass for a while :))

I'm reading a book that I think you may like Ghost Eaters - Clay McLeod Chapman

The Appeal - I enjoyed it but not as much as her later books. It's her first so maybe she hadn't hit her stride yet.

Horrorstor - Grady Hendrix. I love his books they're a lot of fun. Something strange is happening at the Orsk (Ikea) furniture superstore.

I've not picked up Horrorstor yet, but I love Grady Hendrix so will definitely get to it eventually.

I just finished The London Seance Society, which I enjoyed although it did drag a bit.

I read Thd Party House by Lin Anderson, a crime novel set in the Highlands, post lockdown. It was interesting but a bit predictable and I guessed the ending quite early on. There was also a fair bit of sex which I didn't expect and was unnecessary tbh :prude:

I think I'll read the next Slough House book now.

I finished The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo on holiday and thought it was a bit meh. I've been thinking about what it is I find missing in Taylor Jenkins Reid books and I think I just find them a bit slight. They are narratives rather than proper stories if that makes any sense. Anyway I might read Carrie Soto as I do like tennis.

I also finished Shrines of Gaiety and wasn't keen on that either. It didn't make sense! Also my pet hate is when people want you to finish their story for them in your head. You're the writer, you do it! I haven't enjoyed the last two Kate Atkinson books as much as the previous ones, she's always been a must have pre-order writer for me in the past.

Anyway, I am currently reading Half a King by Joe Abercrombie and just whizzed through Peter Crouch's book. I find him funny.

I know what you mean about narratives, Bean, but I do quite like them :))

I’ve just finished An Ordinary Life by Amanda Prowse, which was a kindle unlimited freebie I think, as I don’t remember buying it. It was about a a young woman in WW2 & her life. It was enjoyable but not amazing :))

The last couple of books I’ve read have been Confidence by Denise Mina, and How To Raise an Elephant by Alexander McCall Smith. I’m going straight in on the next No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency book, mainly because it’s from the library so will be due back soon enough.

Amanda Prowse is never quite as good as I think she's going to be.

I enjoyed 450 from Paddington and Bourneville by Jonathan Coe, a book of vignettes about one family at important historical times. Now I'm on The Trees by Percival Everett, a satire of sorts based on the lynching of Emmett Till.

I read the Family Upstairs. I was a bit confused by it if I’m honest (partly as there wasn’t really a family upstairs?) but it did all come together at the end. I am debating over whether to bother with the sequel.

I decided against the sequel because I didn’t want further bad things to happen to the few characters I did like.

I loved both the Family Upstairs and the sequel. Overall, the sequel was very positive and shed light on many unanswered questions the first book created.

I read both the Family Upstairs and the sequel but I had forgotten much of the first one by the time I'd read the second.

I just finished Dead Lions today, the second Slough House book. I enjoyed it and I have the third one downloaded but I'm going to read something else now, just for a change.

450 from Paddington is one of my favourites. Nemesis is another excellent Miss Marple.

Now I'm on to Big Brother. I hate Lionel Shriver as a person but it's from the library, so I can give it right back.
I love American Wife so much. I think it’s better than Rodham (which was also very good).
