I started American Wife last night!

It's too heavy to take on the train with me for my day out so now I'm on The Final Revival of Opal and Ne, recommended by Obama himself. And recommended by my local bookshop for fans of Daisy and The Six. I'm loving it so far.

I read The Woman on the Bridge by Sheila O'Flanagan, her stuff is usually romance set in modern day Ireland bit this one was historical, based in Ireland during the war of Independence/Irish Civil War. I find that period really interesting due to family history, it wasn't exactly heavyweight but it was still enjoyable.

I don't know what to read next, I have another Slough House book but I don't know if I'm in the mood for it.

I have just finished Rafael Behr's Politics, A Survivor's Guide and it was marvellous, actually like therapy for everything post 2016 and the Brexit referendum. Like reading someone else articulating it helped create an actual, reasonable (almost positive) perspective on it all. I might be a bit biased, as I tweeted a nice review at him on Twitter and he replied with a video of his dog but it really was excellent in so many ways, touching on identity, politics, reason and why should all be nice Centrists.

I’ve just finished Death and the Conjuror by Tom Mead. I really enjoyed it, it’s set in the golden age of crime fiction & was very enjoyable. I didn’t guess the twist completely, but it was written in the way that it was all laid out for the reader & the author even referenced the bits you could go back to to check.

My sister brought a big box of proofs from the shop yesterday and I grabbed a few. Apparently you’re supposed to burn them after reading.

Just finished People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry, which I started while I was on holiday. I really enjoyed it as I just really liked the characters. Now I have started Atlas: the Story of Pa Salt, the last Lucinda Riley book that was written posthumously using her notes by her son. I loved all her books, so unsurprisingly am enjoying this one.

I am so annoyed, I just finished Things I Don’t Want To Know by Deborah Levy (brilliant) and I left the next one at home.

I just finished All The Dangerous Things by Stacy Willingham. A really good psychological thriller about a woman who has her baby taken, and pokes into a lot of memory and mental health issues. Nicely done.

I've now started The Guest by Emma Cline.

I read Homecoming by Kate Morton, like her other books, the storyline is good but it's overly long, and some twists seem to be added in, for the sake of it.

There is a new Mark Billingham out but I'll save that for my holiday I think. I'd also like to read Young Mungo but again I might keep that for holiday.
