You could always try a John Lewis personal stylist appointment if you're really feeling lost - they're free, no obligation to buy, and either online or in store.

That cargo skirt does nothing for the model in the photos so I’m not keen but it might be better in the flesh? Would using a personal shopper help? I think Sally had success with a John Lewis one.

I love T-Shirts too as you can dress them up or down, they are so versatile. I’m actually on the hunt for more this weekend!
I also really like culottes with a T-shirt as again, you can dress it up as smart casual for work.
I have a lot of dresses and in autumn/winter I wore a lot of black, purple or blue jersey dresses with thick tights and boots for work.
Now it’s spring, I’m getting my floral long dresses out again.

Re: Work dresses which aren't too smart
Thanks all very much for your help! T-shirts are easy- I like Rapaniu as they are all recycled. I did some personal shopping with John Lewis for a wedding and found them very nice but it does mean everything I buy is from there and I don't really have time for that.
So if I get some skirts and T-shirts that would work well for warmer weather and perhaps a couple of cardigans to wear over the top. What kind of skirts are you thinking? These?

Culotte-wise, I could go with this:

I've looked at M&S and like this although it's not what I would normally wear.

I like this one too and I could wear it with leggings.

I like this as well

This would look nice but I can't wear it with a loose T-shirt as I'm too broad. So I think that I need to wear a tight topped tucked in and then feel too self-conscious.

As this one is a higher waist I could get away with it more?

I don't think you want t shirts to be tight, just fitted - not baggy.

Culottes that length are very hard to wear in my opinion/experience.

Bum - only thing with the Hush ones is that they don't really give me much chance to create an outfit.

Re: Work dresses which aren't too smart
I like it a lot but am nervous about wearing it as I can look a bit lumpen in things like this.emma_p wrote: ↑Wed Apr 26, 2023 7:59 amI saw this last week and thought of you actually!Lily wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 12:23 pm I like this as well

Are Hush free returns? Worth a try on if so.

Try it Lily - I find that type of fabric and style very forgiving. Hush are stocked in JL and they do free click and collect over £30.

I’m lusting over some Scamp and Dude but it’s pricey. They have some nice midi dresses going on.

I've got a couple of sweatshirt dresses from here and they are well made and smart enough for work, I think. You design them yourself - well, choose the neckline, the pockets, the sleeves and the length (and the colour, obviously). I can recommend them - don't let the unprofessional-looking website put you off :)). Mine are the original weight ones, so I can't speak for the others.

Re: Work dresses which aren't too smart
Bugger, I missed this - thank you all. I do like that dress Luna but my shoulders are too broad for that - I need a V-neck.
I ordered the Hush dress to get free P&P at John Lewis :ella: I haven't had two seconds to try it on.
That website is good Morgs, I'm impressed! Do you have any photos of the ones you have?

There are buttons you could undo. From what I’ve seen you have nice normal shoulders :))
