Quite pleased with that after last week. Still not in pb territory but I managed to sustain a good effort until about a mile to go this time, although I did feel quite nauseous in the last mile as it was pretty hot!

Another seaside 10k in the bag :))

Copied from the exercise thread as I’m still knackered
I knew it was going to be awful, as it was the day after a wine tasting day that we’d booked ages ago 🤦🏻‍♀️ I didn’t factor in that I’d have the start of a cold/sore throat, the 24 degree heat, or that the last water station running out of water before I got there. It was not pleasant!

You still did it Moj

So the Great Scottish Run - I had a blinder of a run if I'm honest. Really getting my pre-race prep down to a fine art nutrition and kit wise. Got there with tons of time, necked an electrolyte drink which made me desperate for the loo and I had to queue for ages for the portaloos which meant that I was near the back of my pen.
Managed to not get tied up with slower runners (the waves were really broad this year) and took off, my plan was to have a steady ten miles with a 5km race at the end. Didn't quite go to plan as I didn't have the confidence to really go for it but after a steady push, I was still really pleased with my time. First time under the 2hrs as my previous PB was 02:09 something

XC didn't happen as we had biblical rain and although Scottish Athletics still ran the event we couldn't get out of our town. Cars submerged under water that sort of thing.

Can I ask how much you would consider reasonable to enter a race? The Frome Half/10K/5K is being resurrected under a new organiser next year and all the prices have gone up and I’m just curious as to whether the last lot were too cheap and that’s why they went out of business.

It depends on the race and what they are giving away I think.

The Bath Half for instance is ridiculously expensive in my view, (I think the last time I did it, it cost over £60 because it is Bath and the organisers are tossers. However the Wells 10k was brilliant and cost £15, I think.

How much are they charging?

£28-34 depending on distance. £28 for a 5K seems a lot, it was £15 with the last lot in 2021.

It does seem a little on the expensive side to me, but then I am quite tight about these things.

If there is a decent shirt and medal etc then I would probably do it but it is at the top of end of what I would pay to run around a town.

It’s another £12 if you want a shirt! The medals have always been decent though.

Oh!

Yeah, nah. That's not happening in my world. I only really do the races so I can pick up a shirt and not have to buy one.

That seems expensive for the 5k when you have a Parkrun in the town! The Westbury 10k was £10 in advance, £12 on the day. The couple of half marathons I'm signed up for are currently going for £42 and £54, but I got an early bird price for both, so that seems more in line.

I was looking at some of the Two Tunnels dates but they're more than I want to pay for shorter races. I refuse to pay what the Bath Half ask for.

I'm assuming that for an event that big they'll need to be insured, road closures etc that all mounts up as costly.

The best person to ask would be someone who has organised an equivalent race. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Lucy organise a local HM I vaguely remember it being sponsored by sportshoes.com

The Glasgow Half I did recently was £38 and the 10k cheaper by only a few quid.

It is a big event with all the road closures etc you’d expect. I think I was partly expecting a bigger difference between 5K and half and also thinking that a near doubling of price since 2 years ago was a bit much. I just wondered how it compared with other races, I’m sure it is expensive to organise.
