Oh, I thought you were part of the organising team. I think a lot of these races get away with it because they're well-established or hold some sort of bucket list status. I think a lot more people took up some form of fitness after lockdown so races are more over-subscribed these days which I suppose increases the price.

I'd never enter the Great North Run, for instance, that's horrendously expensive.

I go through phases. One year I'll spend a fair bit on races other years I'll not bother. The majority of races I do are either free (my club has a full race calendar) or I've paid a nominal amount to enter.

£34 doesn’t seem ridiculous for the half. I think it feels a bit like the 5K people are subsidising the half but actually there’s probably a more or less flat rate for things like insurance and road closures so that might not be true.

I'd forgotten to add this race but I'm trying to do as many of my running club races as possible. This is a really undulating course with a couple of brutal hills and a high bridge crossing so you have to go up a few stairs when you're knackered.
Had a race plan and although it nearly killed me got 2 mins off my previous effort

Dec 17th - Pollok Park - Duo

Linn park is always tough, the toughest I'd say out of the series. We had heavy rain in the run up to the event so it was a mud fest. Couldn't get a grip with trail shoes and the killer hill. Head to toe in mud after the race but a course PB.

Rouken Glen - the route was changed last minute due to heavy snow. It's normally one of the easier parks to run but the change added extra elevation. 3 short loops over the same two hills and no grip whatsoever, should've worn spikes for this one but another course PB.
:yay:

Yet another race under my belt for the year. I'm trying to complete all club races as I've never managed it before so this is a fell race, one of the toughest on the calendar. I live on the edge of a regional park so there's tons of scope for difficult runs.

The weather was wild and it had rained heavily the past few days so there was lots of standing water even on the downhill the water and mud was calf deep in places. Initial out and back with two difficult hilly loops in the middle. I didn't fall :yay: and managed a course PB by just over five minutes.
