There were quite a few colours but I think only the pink really works in the room. I want it expressly for reading and drinking wine, probably napping also

Lovely chair. I still love Laura Ashley after all this time. I worked for them in the late 90 s and selling soft furnishings was my favourite thing. My house was full of it :))

That chair looks so comfy!
I also have a version of your toaster, Dics (mine is cream on the edges) it’s about 18 years old and still amazing. We did have to replace an element last year but that was easy (for MrE!)

I have that toaster. It replaced a white one that was ancient (on the Trigger's broom principle) and went to J and C when I wanted a copper one.
I love the chair, too, Marth. Very snuggly.
Here is my picture in situ. It arrived yesterday. M hung it on the predecessor's hook, but I think it's too high. I'll leave it for a while and suggest it gets lowered. The wire on the back will have to be replaced to lower it, so it will have to stay put for now anyway. I also think it might be nice with a picture light above it, which would definitely mean lowering it.

I really the colour of your walls and wall light - it's so glowy.
I wonder if the painting would be better over the mantlepiece? I think it would be a better balance there and it would really make the painting a focal point.

That's interesting. I hadn't thought about moving the mirror. I like the way it picks up the colour of the sofa (which doesn't always have the furry throw on the back), but it would do that from the chimney breast too.
I'll have a think, thanks.

Our fridge/freezer died this week after 9 years of loyal service, so this is being delivered today.

Re: Ideal Homes- Show Us Your New Purchases!
That looks very swish, Est.
I tried the picture over the mantle, but tragically the fixings for the mirror sit about a cm either side of the frame, so to swap them would mean taking them out, filling the holes and repainting, which is too much hassle. When we next decorate I will definitely consider changing them over though. The other thing is that the lamps on the mantlepiece bounce light back into the room as they are in front of the mirror, and obviously I can't sit them on the sofa.
As we'd moved things around anyway, I've got M to lower the painting, and he's driving me insane. To be fair, the original hook is visible when the picture is where I want it, so it's either live with that (or the mark where it's been) or have the height slightly wrong. M is very much of the school of thought that if something works (eg if there is an available hook it will do the job, regardless of whether the aesthetics work) then why faff about? I have a different philosophy, however. Anyway, it's been dropped enough to still hide the hook mark, and looks better, if not exactly where I'd have put it on a virgin wall.

Ooooo I am phobic about pictures not being level or hung too high or just WRONG.
I love the Matt black of your fridge, Est. How is it for fingerprints. I would quite like a much smaller one as I never have loads of food around (aside from 15 packets of spaghetti)

It’s been in situ for a day now and so far is better than the stainless steel one we had from a fingerprint perspective. Need to figure out how to clean it though as obvs the old oil based spray I used to use will be no good.

Have you received your chair yet, Marth?
We've bought a few things - the chair and lamp are in our bedroom and the chair will soon be covered in Rob's clothes.
The bench is intended for the foyer but has not yet arrived.

Re: Ideal Homes- Show Us Your New Purchases!

In the quickest turnaround I think we’ve ever achieved, C and I decided this space needed something more after we took the Christmas tree down, and somehow found and agreed the exact thing within a week. We did have a chair in the spot before, but we need more storage and also light in that corner, so it’s been relocated.
