IWLTS: Why the fuck do you persist in calling me Alison? My name is clearly not Alison.

One of my Dutch colleagues. He's called me Alison a few times before, which I've just excused as a slip of the tongue. But now he's just sent me an invitation to a Teams discussion, just me and him, for which he'll obviously have had to enter my actual name and yet the invitation is titled "DutchCunt - Alison sync". I am perplexed. Does he truly believe my name is Alison? Is he trying to show superiority? Is he just thick as two short short planks?

Email him back and say "You know my name's Sandrine and not Alison, right?".

(I hope you're called Sandrine, otherwise you're opening yourself up for a whole world of pain).

:mog: I'm not, but I like the idea of confusing him even further.

My other cunning plan was to play Elvis Costello's Aaaaaaallllison on a loop for the duration of our meeting.

He sounds like a total dick, Zooms.

IWLTS: actually I won't be sorry to see you move away, I'll certainly not miss your casual racism.

My neighbours have put their house up for sale, the sign went up at the weekend. The man stopped me this evening as I got out of my car to tell me. Which is a courteous thing to do. What is not courteous is to tell me that you "won't be selling to Asians"

I said that I had no problem with anyone of any ethnicity moving in, and that I'm from an immigrant family myself. He actually said "why? Where are you from?"

I said "Glasgow" so he looked confused and I said "but my parents are Irish and people used to say stuff like that about them"

What a cunt.

I know, he's an absolute dick. I don't think I've ever really spoken to him, I'll say hello when I see him, but that's about it. Thankfully he'll be gone soon. I can't believe someone thinks it's OK to say stuff like that!

He also asked what happened to J, the nosey git. I just said "oh he moved out last year" I wished I'd been quicker and said "oh him? He's under the patio"

He sounds awful. Conversely I am dreading my neighbours moving. They are on the market wanting to move to Dorset. She has been a tower of strength to me whilst I’ve not been well and they were really worried to tell me.

I hope someone decent moves in for you Sal.

Bloody hell, sal. I'm actually surprised that someone still thinks they can freely express that sort of view. Sadly not surprised that people think like that though.

I had a colleague who called me by my surname (which funnily enough also sounds a bit like Alison). I replied to him once calling him Jones, which sorted him out :)) We were on friendly / joking terms though, and even then I hesitated quite a bit before doing it.

A different colleague would always email yet another colleague called Mark, but spell it Marc. In that case I think it was a bit like him "translating" the name.

Yes, it’s freezing in this house. Why do you think I bring a hot water bottle. Put the bloody heating on. You are not poor.

What an ignorant dick, Sal. I'm glad you put him in his place...and that he's moving out.

Your Mum, Luna?

I had the meeting with the Dutch colleague and he actually called me my real name - or at least, his best attempt at it anyway. So I'm putting it down to him just being a bit thick, rather than malicious. :spoon:

It was 16 degrees today earlier. It’s really cold feeling though. North facing garden and there was an early morning frost. Anyway, normally the heating kicks in under 18 degrees but she’d switched it off and put her coat on.
