The grandchildren did so well there. Especially the younger ones keeping vigil over their grandma.

James is only 14 (I looked it up - 15 in December). I’m not sure I could have done that at his age.

Why did he have medals?

They are jubilee medals apparently, but he only has 2 as he wasn’t born when The Queen has her Golden Jubilee.

Not sure I could do it even now. All those people looking too! And probably thinking that they were lucky that their visit timed with the vigil.

Yes - his older cousins Peter and William have the Gold, Diamond and Platinum medals, as do all the rest of the family, armed forces and selected other civil servants. Harry has them too, plus an Afghanistan service medal. The women also have them, but for some reason, don’t get to wear them?

To be honest I don't know Est, it came from Twitter.

But given the absolute state of everything over here right now, it wouldn't shock me.

Imagine being a member of the RF and waking up with a migraine or explosive diarrhoea. You’ve got to get through this event with the eyes of the world on you.

What is ok on the day of the funeral?!

I read the response as a tad sarcastic.

If it doesn't rain, I'm painting a shed.
Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either, just fuck off and leave me alone.

One of my colleagues actually assumed I would be taking today off work. I'm not even British! "Yeah, but you sound like you are." I was also fully planning to do some non-black washing...

I've already got the washing machine on. Send me to the Tower. ( surely that response was sarcasm. Wasn't it?! Are people that mad?)

Mind you J's flight home from Germany is cancelled out of "respect" so.

Well summed up, rosy.

It seems like it's become a competition - who is the saddest?

Ha! I am definitely the saddest. So sad that I haven’t got out of bed yet. It has nothing to do with laziness / relishing the opportunity to lounge, whatsoever.
