Cheers! One foot in front of the other is always the mantra, and I pretty much had that stuck in my head the whole way around. It also helped that we had this roast dinner booked in advance and I honestly spent probably three days concentrating on how amazing that was going to be which blew thoughts of the actual race out of my head. It sounds daft but it worked.

I learned that I definitely need to spend more on shoes and get them fitted properly rather than take the usual gamble from Sportsshoes.com if I ever do anything like this again. The ones I have are great for short distance but if I am to do anything like this distance again I think I will need to spend big because the blistering has been brutal. Other than that, if I were two stone lighter then I would have kept up with the main crew no problem. I do need to address that regardliess of running.

Eating more too, I did the whole thing on four mini pork pies and some jelly babies and that wasn't enough. I had more on me but in that heat I just didn't want to eat anything. Next time I will force that issue.

We will of course carry on running together, we mates and have been for a long time now, and so I will still be on Strava/Facebook with it all and we have said we'll do a smaller trail once a month to keep things ticking over, 15 miles or so we think.

It really means a lot that you have said what you have said Duo, I also love seeing how you belt about on Strava. You are a machine, so I'm kind of honoured that you would say that about me, thank you. :hbeat:

Also, come down one day! Come out with my mob and although we 100% will not be doing those hills there are plenty of other ones that are just as lovely, but not as brutal!

Fucking hell, TC. Was going to ask about nutrition but didn’t quite dare for fear of the response and I was right  (I’m equally bad at it, but it is really important at that sort of distance!)

And yes - shoes & socks. And Blister Shield :))

Yes to all of that! I can actually deal with the aches that I have today but the blisters are a bastard! :))

It was quite daft to eat so little looking back on it but I am sure you know how it is when you are just kind of focused on your next target and have nothing else in your mind. The plus side of it all were that my sugars were absolutely within range until the last few miles where I mainlined jelly babies just to get myself over the line.

But still, I need more fuel than that in future for sure.

It's all a learning experience. Keep your feet uncovered as much as possible so they don't drop off or melt :))

Loved reading your account Mog, you have something to be immensely proud of! What determination and perseverance! (I have a friend who has run the Grand Union Canal 145 mile Race a few times now, from Birmingham to London. He must have excellent socks and shoes...) Huge congratulations to you for completing this run!

Good lord, Alan. That all seems a bit much.

You can probably expect to say farewell to your toenails over the next few weeks too.

Ah, they were mostly all long gone before I started to be honest. Actually, one of them is growing back really badly at the moment and I don't know what to do about that.

Well done you nutter. I don’t think the calorie deficit works quite how you think, but who cares! :vrb:

(Also, your running group keeps advertising locally saying to check out the FB group but nobody ever approves the requests to join, if you see John ever or can pass the message on!)

Cheers!

I was doing basic maths, which probably isn't right. 6,000 burnt plus the standard 2,500 for Saturday and Sunday, less what I had eaten. It was all guesswork basically, and whatever it actually is, I am still starving!

That is weird that they aren't accepting anyone, I'll see if I can invite you, presuming it is you that wants to join?

Yeah, I’ve tried 3 times over the past 6 months or so? Maybe they just saw the surname and thought NOPE?

My race was solely half marathon pacing practice. I'd forgotten I'd entered it and had to scrabble about for the details. It's a local to me race and the first time I've done it so didn't realise about the first mile being all uphill and then you head onto a cycle track with a gentle downward gradient so that meant a gentle uphill gradient on the way back. :))

Anyways not much to tell it was really hot, the scenery was nice and it's another race in the bag.

1st club race of the season and I had no idea how it would go. I don't like short distances so gotten myself really stressed.

Anyways took off too fast and tried to hang on didn't do too badly but could've paced it so much better. All down to experience.
