I was thinking something similar Pip, about reading more books by women. I have read 27 books so far this year, 10 have been by men but 4 were by the same male author (Mick Herron).

I mostly stick with female authors too. I never made a point of doing so, I just tend to prefer them.

The last 32 of 33 books I've read on kindle this year are women authors. The man was the last Rebus. :))

I’ve just counted up and 53 of 77 of mine were women, and it’s possibly a couple more as I skipped over half a dozen that were just initials. And that’s with no conscious effort.

My male writers are Mark Billingham, Ian McEwen, Graham Norton, Douglas Stuart, Martin O'Neill and the aforementioned Mick Herron. I miscounted and it was 9, not 10 books.

I don't think I'll bother with Ian McEwen again, and Martin O'Neill was a one off, but I'd still read the others, as well as Ian Rankin who I love. Apart from them though, I don't think I'll bother.

A male author I do really like is Carlos Ruiz Zafon. It’s a shame he died :))

I am making a conscious effort but it’s not especially hard not to read men’s writing. My big exception is Robin Ince this year, and I told him so. He didn’t mind, he said we’ve all heard enough of old white men. :)

I just finished the Running Grave, I thought it was excellent, much better than the Ink Black Heart. Some of it was genuinely creepy.

I've finished the Keeper of Stories and loved it so much! Have just started the Rosie Code by Kate Quinn.

12 out of the 54 books I've read so far this year have been by men (and two of those were by Homer and one was a female translator so I'm not sure whether they count or not!) - I have been trying to read more male authors though as I was conscious I have been reading so few - we actually chatted about it at a recent book club.

Oddly enough, the last book I read by a male author (Prophet Song by Paul Lynch) was written from a female viewpoint and I remember thinking when I read it that it didn't jarr at all - so many of the books I've read recently by men really fall down when writing about women.

14 out of the 36 books I read this year were by men. Richard Osman and Alexander McCall Smith can be honorary women though. Matt Haig cannot.

Mine is just over half of the 83 books I've read so far have been male writers, but I do read a lot of trashy thrillers with little to no sex scenes or female characters, which is probably why I've failed to notice.

I'll probably make a more conscious decision from now on to pick up more female-authored books.

I'm on The Mercies by Kiran someone or other. Early days but it's good so far, about a 17th century fishing community where all the men have been drowned.

It never occurs to me whether the author I am reading is male or female; I'd say it's half and half I suppose.

It’s awful. I don’t know if I can even be arsed going to discuss how awful the one and only ‘Act’ I’ve read is. I can imagine its appeal to a teenage boy and not much more.

I read The Push this week as Sproglette wants to read it and I wasn’t sure it was appropriate. It’s not bad as a suspense thriller type novel though I’ve told her the themes might be a bit old for her. I’ll not stop her reading it though, I read all sorts of shite as a teen.

I read Joyrider by Angela Scanlon yesterday. It was really interesting in parts.

Just started Gaudy Night by Dorothy L Sayers after is was recommended by a professional colleague at a conference earlier this year.
